Dice City Roller Guide

The Best Srategy for Playing Pogo's "Dice City Roller"

Lainie
Dice City Roller is a super fantastic fun game put out by Pogo. I've been playing on and off since they came out with it. It's a game similar to Yahtzee, but a whole lot better. It requires some luck. But, with the right strategy you can place yourself in the top three in a room full of 20 players. Since I'm a highly competitive person, I took the time to figure out the best strategy and logged my progress to find out which method works best. In this strategy, I place within the top three (if not first) every game. My score is always above 900, reaching over 1,000 often. This only works when you play with no auctions. Here's the method:

Going for the "clear" bonus and the "muti card" bonus is key. The yellow card (straight) is worth the most points. Most people go for that. I did at first, but I found that I often had leftover dice because the green card (full house) may have something on it. If you leave your yellow card open you have a larger variety of dice you can place on it.

So, if on the first roll you don't have a combination that can clear red and blue at the same time, don't clear out any. Sprinkle your dice between green, yellow and blue without clearing any. You then clear on the second roll at least two.

Each roll, spread your dice between red, blue and green keeping yourself open for "options". Place high dice on blue as the low numbers can't be placed on it. So, if you roll a "6" place it on blue and put the lower numbers on green and red. If you're placing "6's" on red, you'll render the lower dice unable to be used. Hence, having a lot leftover at the end of each roll which does you no good.

Don't clear out right away as this will also leave you with leftover dice towards quarter four. Keep your card clearing even between the three cards. For example, if it's quarter three and you have three stars on blue, you don't really want to focus on that card because all through quarter four you won't have it anymore and it'll be hard to have enough dice to clear red and green. So, just take it easy on that card for a few rolls and focus more heavily on red and green.

I try to place 6's and 5's on blue. I place 1's on red. 2's and 3's go on green. 4's are great because they can go wherever I need them. This is really key to remember. Although, this rule can be broken and a high score can still be achieved. It's a great general rule of thumb.

Only place dice on yellow if you have nowhere else to put them. If you fill a yellow card more than once during a game, you'll miss the third clear bonus. Never put dice on orange - it's worth the least amount of points.

If you do this right, by the end of the game you should have cleared red and blue at least. Most times, you'll be able to clear green as well.

Remember, if you have "2's" on your red, you don't want "2's" on your green. Place your dice strategically, getting ready for the next roll leaving your options for dice placing open. Don't think about it too much as you only have so much time to place the dice and you don't want to lose any. It's also important to remember, if you play by clicking on cards rather than dragging the dice to them, that you click in the right order. You can't take dice off cards, so you want to make sure you are directing them to the right card. A small mistake like that, even once during a game, will ruin the strategy and you'll place low.
