Dick's Last Resort Restaurant in Dallas, Texas

Have you ever had bad service in a restaurant? I mean, service where you wonder if the waiters and waitresses realize they are working on tips and you know they aren't going to get one? What if you went to a restaurant where bad service was not only to be expected, but it was the reason you go there in the first place?

Dick's Last Resort restaurant inDallas, Texas, is one of those places.

Dallas boasts being one of only seven (7) cities in the United States to play host for a Dick's Last Resort restaurant, with two of them proudly being located in Texas (Dallas and San Antonio.

When I was invited to go to Dick's, I had no clue what to expect. I figured this was just going to be another Texas rib joint, and believe me, in Dallas, Texas, there's no shortage of BBQ and rib joints. My friend told me I just had to go with them to this place called Dick's Last Resort. I remember asking the first time we went exactly what was so special about Dick's.

Of course, the first time we went, I wasn't able to get online and see the Dallas, Texas Dick's Last Resort website, and had I seen it first, I probably would have understood. It's hard not to laugh when browsing the site. If you get a chance, stop by, because the submit a joke section alone is worth a visit to the website! Once on the site, you'll get a good feel for the atmosphere and tone of the restaurant and bar.

But I'm getting ahead of myself.

When we walked in the door, the hostess glanced up from what she was doing and then said, "Seat yourself. What do you think, I stand here all day just finding you a place to sit?" My friend watched me closely, a smile on his face. I had never really had a hostess greet me quite like that at a restaurant before.

Dick's in Dallas calls itself, "The imperfect place in a perfect world", and I can't really argue with that. Inside, there is a bit of a restaurant-slash-sports bar feel to the place, with a giant screen television for watching the game, whatever game it might be that day, but don't be surprised when your waiter purposely stands in front of the television!

The food is fantastic, seriously. There aren't a lot of choices on the menu, basic BBQ ribs and chicken and sides, but that won't matter. If you like BBQ, you're going to love the food at Dick's Last Resort, but the food isn't the main reason to go to Dick's. As they say on their website, "Places with good food are a dime a dozen."

The fun part about Dick's is the sassy and self-proclaimed 'smart-ass' attitude of the wait staff. Need more tea? "Get it yourself. I'm busy," is a common answer. Yes, I'm serious! That is what our waitress told us!

They aren't rude, not in the traditional sense of rudeness, but the staff is sassy and sarcastic, hilarious and fun, and it takes bad service to a whole new and hilarious level.

I had a blast at Dick's Last Resort in Dallas, Texas, and have and will return many times. Still, every time I get poor or rude service at another restaurant now, I can't help but chuckle and think about visiting Dick's. In fact, one time I remember telling a waitress at an establishment, "If I wanted rude service, I would have gone to Dick's Last Resort. Their food's better anyway!"

I highly recommend visiting Dick's Last Resort in Dallas, Texas, located at 2211 N. Lamar Ave. It's a little out of the way, but well worth the visit. Don't miss Crappy Hour!

That was a very accurate description..lol I have been to the one in Dallas, and being as I'm sarcastic, I felt right at home. My friend with me, not so much! Good food, good beer and rude people, what more can you ask for;-) Good job on the write up.

Oh what fun! I would love this place. Your friend is ornery for not giving you the heads up on wshat to expect. LOL
Hmm, I think I went to a copycat place like that in Kansas. The place had peanut shells all over the floor and the wait staff just shrugged there shoulders when we asked for an empty ashtray to put the shells in, after she dumped the shells on the floor! Shocked!!! LOL
I wanna tryout out Dicks!! Roadtrip~~~

This sounds absolutely charming in a demented sort of a way. I like! I wonder how the servers manage with tips...what a gig if they are paid well to be a ...well ya know.

The Dallas location in the West End is the original, then they branched out. I've been to 4 of their locations and loved them all.... but the original in Dallas is best by far. - and to whoever said don' bring the kids, I say BAH! I brought my daughter when she was like 12 and she loves it too.Now she's 27 and still goes there.
