Did Ben Roethlisberger Commit Sexual Assault?

Steelers Quarterback Accused of Sexual Assault One Year After the Fact

Tony Daniels
One year after the fact, almost to the day, Ben Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual assault according to Fox News 36 in Toledo, Ohio.

Roethlisberger, from nearby Finlay, Ohio was accused of rape by a woman in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The crime allegedly occurred last July according to a story posted by The New York Times..

The Steelers' quarterback was in Lake Tahoe playing in a golf tournament at the time. According to his accuser, the incident happened at a local hotel where she worked.

At the time of this post Roethlisberger had not made any statements, however his lawyer stated that he expected the Super Bowl winning quarterback to be fully exonerated.

The accusations against Roethlisberger are very serious but the timing of them being brought forward raises questions. Why did his accuser wait so long after the alledged crime took place to say something? And why almost exactly one year afterward?

The circumstances surrounding situation are suspicious at best.

I met Roethlisberger when he was still in high school playing basketball for Findlay High. I was coaching at a high school in Toledo, Ohio. We played against them when Ben was a senior. They won of course and as I recall ben had a pretty good game. In fact Roethlisberger was just a good athlete period.

I continued to follow his career through college at Miami University (Ohio) and then with the Steelers. Throughtout all those years I never once heard anything close to the nature of this accusation. It is hard for me to believe that Ben could have gone all that time without anything of this sort being mentioned and suddenly do this.

From the time Roethlisberger was at Findlay High School through the present time, he has always had a clean- cut image. Is it possible for people to change? Of course. But to this degree? It's questionable.

In the coming days more facts will come out and we will be able to better judge whether the claims made against Ben Roethlisberger are true or not. One thing is for certain however, at least in this writer's mind, the image that is being portrayed of Ben Roethlisberger in this accusation is a far cry from the image he has built his entire life.

Don't confuse talent with character. Money and fame has a way of dulling people's conscience and morals.

Ben does seem like a decent young man. No one, however, is accusing him of being a rapist that grabs girls on the street. This is an allegation of "date rape" Clearly, such does take place and I am pretty sure there have been men accused of such who have actually done it where everyone that knew the guy was stunned. My point is we hardly know Ben well enough to conclude he could not do it. If Ben did not do this, then this is tragic. I will say this. I assumed the accuser had found some lawyer who was just looking to get on the news. Her lawyer, however, has not even been on the news. Moreover, he looks to be a darn good lawyer. He has one tough case but from a review of his complaint, it is better than I thought.
