Did Giants Really Roam the Earth?

Greg Seltz
Genesis 6: 4 (King James Version)

"There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown"

Though we have come to associate the aforementioned biblical verse with the offspring of angels, known as nephilim, various other cultures and religions similarly identify historical giants. For example, Greek mythology conceived religious beliefs acknowledging the existence of titans, and Islamic lore introduced Uj ibn Anaq, who is similarly identified as the Amorite King of Jerusalem, Og, in the Old Testament of the bible.

Discoveries have unearthed human bones of abnormal stature, along with footprints that exceed thirteen inches wide in the human heel. Even compared to a "Neanderthal" male, the previous findings were significantly excessive in size. Biblical scriptures have attested the height of Goliath to estimate roughly 9 feet tall, and Og, the King of Bashan, required a bed of iron 15 feet in length. Naturally, various sources now inscribed in literary texts can easily be described as exaggerated. But how do you explain the physical remnants of human skeletons and the significantly large, man-made tools?

A race of people discovered in Australia, called "meganthropus," were also considerably larger than average. Depending on the source, the average skeletal remains were guesstimated to exceed 7-12 feet in height. Based on jaw fragments and teeth discoveries, one such individual was likely 12 feet tall and weighting 400+ pounds. Scientists often intend to prove these were remains of an ancient species of ape. However, abnormally large, man-made tools were also discovered in close proximity to the gigantic remains. These tools consisted of axes, clubs, knives, etc., and have surprisingly become more advanced as time unfolded. For instance, the eras have been classified as the "Late" and "Early" phase. The "Late" phase exhibits more advanced design and workmanship.

To conclude, for those who belief in the aforementioned religions, etc.; to disregard the physical evidence above is to also contradict various aspects of your own religion. I guess only scientific studies can reveal the mystery.

Great article. I definitely believe that the evidence is out there, not only for giants, but for the "Gods Of Old" being real beings, and not just ficticious persons. For anyone who is interested in learning more about man's most ancient past, the books of Zecharia Sitchin provide a great wealth of information about the Nefilim or Annunaki and the origins of man. There is an article about this at http://www.squidoo.com/zechariasitchin

Interesting. I had not heard about the scientific evidence.

Very interesting! Some mysteries may never be solved, and others we're slowly learning more about each day. I find it fascinating.

Hi Greg. Thanks for the history pointers. Remember also, that there are giants on the earth even right now (or did you say that and I missed it). They are not here in great numbers but we heard about them, sometimes even see one of them. But, if you are saying that this information somehow conflicts with bible truth, I miss that point.

Interesting concept--I'd be really interested to see further scientific studies come out about it! :)

Australia has many species unique to that island, maybe this was one more.
