Did Green Bay Packers General Manager Ted Thompson Low-Ball Former Pro Bowl Return Specialist Clifton Smith?

Clifton Smith's Twitter Has Created Confusion to NFL Fans About His Future Plans

Where is Clifton Smith going? Green Bay? Miami? Or, amidst the confusion of his tweets, is he undecided? All of Clifton Smith's tweets can be found HERE.

On Tuesday afternoon, Clifton Smith tweeted through CliftonSmith22, "I'm coming to Green Bay!" This was misinterpreted to mean that Clifton Smith had agreed to a deal with the Green Bay Packers, who have no legitimate return specialists on their roster after parting ways with Will Blackmon.

4 hours ago, Smith tweeted, "Man green bay was amazing I loved the great tradition out here now it's time to fly to option #2 and make a decision." This was followed by a tweet 2 hours ago, "On my way to Miami now."

It sounds like Clifton Smith is currently in the negotiation process with these teams and possibly other unmentioned clubs. However, I'd expect Smith to choose the Dolphins over the Packers. Miami has three distinct advantages over Green Bay for Smith: Smith has familiarity with Florida after playing his past two seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, not many would prefer Green Bay over Miami because of December and possibly club life, and Ted Thompson is extraordinarily conservative when pursuing free agents.

Smith did make another tweet within the last hour, "Let me clear something up GB never offered me anything but a workout and I do play for money the money never takes away how much I love this." This could be interpreted to mean that Ted Thompson took an overly conservative approach toward pursuing Smith, but I believe it means that he'll go where he gets the most $ and is still awaiting an offer from the Dolphins.
