Did I Hitch a Lift from a Ghost?

Halloween Scary Story

JR
I had been into town and missed the last train home. I decided to go around to the bus stop and wait for a bus. I sat there on that chilly Halloween Autumn evening, wondering when the bus would come and thinking 'why I had left the car at home'. After about twenty minutes a young man pulled up in an old sports car.

"Nice car" I said.

"I do not think the buses are running this late tonight" he replied. "Can I offer you a lift? "he asked.

"I am heading to my mothers house in Old town," he continued.

"Well that is near me" I replied. I thought deeply. "Well go on then you look trustworthy," I laughed.

So I got in his shiny red car and he told me his name was Billy. I took of my jacket as it was warm inside. Billy did not say very much, but I felt calm and safe with him. His pale face did catch my attention more than once though. He looked ill.

After about thirty minutes we arrived at my door. "My mother lives around the corner at number four" he said. "Its a small world" I smiled. "and thank you so much Billy" I said.
The next morning I remembered I had left my jacket in Billies car. I drove around the corner to number four and knocked the door. An old Grey women answered. I told her about Billy giving me a lift and about leaving my jacket in his car. She told me to come in and showed me a photograph of Billy.

Shaking she said "Billy was my son, but he was killed thirty years ago on Halloween night." She paused then said "his red sports car collided with a train in town" "Sorry about your jacket" she mumbled.

I ran from the house and drove back into town. I parked near the bus stop where Billy had stopped and saw a cemetery across the road. I ran inside, and there on top of a nearby grave stone was my blue coat, neatly folded.......... The name on the grave stone read ' Billy!

Later on that morning I bought the local Newspaper. It's headline read "Halloween Bus Crash kills Four" It gently fluttered to the ground as my hands began to shake.
