Did John McCain Lose His Mind?

Did John McCain lose his mind? His latest "economic stimulus" proposal makes it seem that way. How does not charging the federal gasoline and diesel tax help us exactly? Those taxes pay for maintenance of the nation's interstate highways and other highways and transportation infrastructure. So we don't do any roadwork for the summer? And how much money is that going to put in my pocket? If I am a trucker and have to buy 100 gallons of diesel fuel at a cost of more than $4 a gallon, my fuel bill would be over $400, but the portion of that bill represented by the tax is less than $30. Not much of a stimulus if you ask me.

So how do we maintain the roads, if taxes for that purpose are no longer collected? Simple, says John, we use money from the general fund. This makes it seem like there's a pot of money out there in Congressland just itching for someone to come along and spend it. This is sort of like leprechaun gold at the end of the rainbow. The last time I looked, the government was running on money borrowed from China and every penny is already spoken for in the monstrous federal budget.

John, what we need are jobs with living wages so that we can pay our bills and our taxes. Did you know that if I don't earn any money I don't pay any taxes? If you want an economic stimulus that will help EVERYONE then it's jobs, jobs, jobs.
