Did You Do You Research Before You Got That Tattoo?

You see it everywhere, people walking around in public with art all over their bodies. From extreme to mild, for any style, more and more people today are inked. Whether its one tiny tattoo or a whole body full of them, tattoos have certainly gone mainstream. Tattoos are also more accepted this day in age than they have ever been. Here are a few things to consider before you go under the needle yourself.

Tattoos are forever, whether you like it or not. The step to get a permanent design on your body is one that needs to be thought out. Yes, you can get them removed, but it is pricey and often leaves scarring. Think it through and if it seems like the right thing for you, then go for it. If you are having second thoughts or doubts, don't do it, odds are you will regret it with time. If you have thought it through, and still want a tattoo then go for it!

The next step is getting a design picked out that suits you. Whatever your influence may be for a design, interpret your design on paper. If you are fairly decent at sketching, draw it out. Decide also where you want that design to be on your body, then go from there. You can also find ideas on line or in magazines. Pick something out that suits your style. Also, some people get tattoos for other various reason, such as preserving the memory of a loved one, or just something special. Make sure that once you picked your design, you have no doubts. Consider how it will look on you. Draw your design out and stick it on your body. See how it looks in that spot. Once you have the perfect design in mind, on with the next step.

Research, research, research, its never fun. But it is ultimately important in the tattoo business. Get on line and search tattoo shops. Some places even display pictures of their work. Pick up a tattoo magazine. Or if you have tattoo studios in your town, pay them a visit. Ask them to walk you step by step through their preparation procedures, and have them show you their equipment. Make sure the studio looks and smells clean. Sometimes, they will even let you watch a customer get their tattoo. Cleanliness is also key when getting a tattoo. Most states have regulations on tattoo studios and their procedures. Also, make sure you ask if they change their needles with every tattoo. By sharing needles you can intercept many harmful diseases. Make sure that you are content with the salon. Use your gut instinct, if it doesn't feel right, don't go for it.

Finally you are ready to get inked. Take your design and go to the tattoo shop. Consider what part of your body where you will get your tattoo. Wear loose clothing if that area is covered by clothes. Once you are at the shop, show them your design. They usually re-draw the designs on paper that will transfer onto your body. Make sure the design is still what you intended it to be. Once you are ready, they will start to prep you. Watch carefully and make sure you change the needle, and sanitize the entire area where they are working before they start tattooing. Once they start, just stay as relaxed as possible. Breath easy and stay relaxed. It may be a little painful depending on where you are getting your tattoo. Try not to focus on the pain. Stay still and don't move as well. If you start feeling like you are going to pass out, let them know right away. Usually tattoos are not that bad, it just feels like you are scratching a bad sunburn.

Finally, you are done! This is just the beginning for caring for your tattoo. The studio usually provides you with instructions for proper tattoo care. Follow them exactly. Usually, within two hours after your tattoo, you will want to take the bandage off to let it get some air. Then apply an ointment such as A & D to help it heal. Use the ointment for about two to three days. After those first few days, apply Vitamin E to your tattoo to ensure proper healing. Wash your tattoo with a scent free soap gently every day. Avoid submerging your tattoo in water for a long period of time for about a week. After a few days, your tattoo will start to peel and flake. Don't pick at it, just let it fall off on its own. Apply a scent free lotion to your tattoo a few times a day as needed. After a few weeks, your tattoo will be just fine if you follow these instructions. Make sure during the healing process, if any heavy swelling or extreme pain occur to seek medical attention. Your tattoo will feel like a sunburn for the first few days. It may also be itchy after about a week, but do not scratch it.

Following proper precautions and taking care of your tattoo is crucial to help it heal properly and look good for a long time. Make sure you take the proper steps in researching a studio first hand. Also, it is always important to think about your design and making sure it is want you want, anytime you get a tattoo. Enjoy your new tattoo, it is an expression of you in general. Your body is a work of art, might as well personalize it!
