Did 'True Blood' Season 3 Suck?

Did the Third Season of 'True Blood' Live Up to Hype and Expectations?

Tammy Lee Morris
"True Blood" ended its third season on September 12 and rather than go out with a bang it felt more like a balloon with a slow leak that just deflated. As a fan from the first season and a bigger fan of the Charlaine Harris novels the series is based upon (trust me, the books are better), I was anxiously waiting for season three of "True Blood." Season three was based upon the third book of the Harris series, "Club Dead," and was when the story of telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse and her supernatural adventures started to get really good.

Unfortunately, this season of "True Blood" looked nothing like "Club Dead." Well, okay, it had a few similarities, but the story in "True Blood's" third season felt like a madcap roller coaster of disjointed confusion and side stories that just made my head hurt. Really.

"Club Dead" brought Sookie Stackhouse into the world of werewolves and later books further develop this plot line, but I was looking forward to werewolves in "True Blood's" third season. I was disappointed in their portrayal as vampire blood addicted cronies of bad, bad vampire Russell Edgington. Russell wasn't even that much of a baddie in the Harris books.

The plot lines in "True Blood" season three were difficult to follow as there were just too darn many and at the end, there were no loose ends tied up. You, or at least I, expect to have some unresolved issues spill over into the next season of a series but I also expect to see resolution and closure on a few things. I didn't feel that happened in season three. The more I watched the more I became discombobulated and turned off - and I've read all the books so I at least had an idea of what was happening!

I was expecting some type of spectacular finale for "True Blood," but instead felt let down. The balloon analogy is accurate: The tension (and confusion) built with each episode, like a balloon filling with air and in the last episode I would expect it to explode. Instead it just felt like a it sprung a leak and just pfffftttt'ed away with a whimper and a half-hearted effort.

Did "True Blood" season three suck? Well, in my opinion, yeah - it sucked and it sucked hard with no real enjoyment or special happy for me. There was such a departure from the original book that it became irritating after awhile to see characters that I really liked turned into shadows of their print persona.

HBO will be bringing "True Blood" back for a fourth season and the fourth book in the series is my favorite. I don't know if I'll be watching since it's obvious that the story I really like will be slaughtered and parceled out like bits of tainted meat. I don't know if I'll be watching.

The show got too gay for my liking in season 3, wont be watching season 4 if it continues.

Yes, it sucked. I quit on the episode after Bill turns that vampire's head around while screwing her. The werewolves were disappointing pansy jobbers. The entire storyline with Sam's family was an embarrassing, uninteresting waste of time. The homosexual pandering was way over the top and came at the cost of distraction. I don't mind some innuendo, gay or straight, but the raging homosexuality from scene to scene replaced any real storytelling. Jason Stackhouse was funny as ever, but his scenes seemed to go nowhere. It was a huge step down from the range that actor has been able to convey, both in serious situations and comical ones. Episode after episode just went nowhere. It was trite, a waste of time, and left me feeling worn out rather than entertained.

the whole damn season sucked. You expect some deviation from the book but it went so far overboard on the deviation, that it took away serious growth moments for all the charachters. It finished turning Sookie into a wuss when she got tougher in the books, led Eric's and Alcide's charachters astray, and provided Stephen Moyer's- Bill Compton- down a continued path of nauseating return. The only story line I find myself still interested in is Lafayette. Canceled HBO and will not get it back next year. I only order it during the True Blood months because it has been the only show I watched on it; till someone went and screwed that up.

No, the season did not suck, it was far superior to season two. The only thing I would say was wrong with season three is there were too many sub plots....they need to pare them down and develop only a couple....

Because I've become so obsessed with "Twilight," somebody recommended I give "True Blood" and "Vampire Diaries" a shot. So I did. I do NOT like this show. It reminds me of a horror version of "Mama's Family." Uncle Daddy Calvin? That blew me completely. There's a lot of gross bloody body parts and everybody seems to be in a relationship with everybody. I dunno about this one. I'll give "Vampire Diaries" a shot, but this "True Blood" show is not my cup of tea.

Never watch the show, but there seems to be a lot of interest in it.

I didn't catch the season finale, but agree the season lacked. Great write-up. Hopefully next season will be a good one.
