More Diet Pills May Be Approved by the FDA
Some question why the Food and Drug Administration continues to allow Meridia to remain on the market. Meridia drug has been reported to cause heart attacks and strokes in some individuals.
Readers may recall that Meridia has been in the news because of heart attacks and strokes that may have been caused by this diet pill. However, some have acknowledged that obesity could be the cause of heart attacks and strokes in patients taking Meridia.
In addition to Lorcaserin, other diet pills are that were waiting for approval from the FDA include Onexa, which was rejected. There may be a decision by the end of the year for another diet pill called Contrave. All of the medications mentioned are for the morbidly obese.
Dr. Jennifer Ashton, a medical correspondent for CBS News had this to say about the safety of diet pills:
"We know there is no quick fix; there's no magic bullet. Again, this is not for people who want to lose five or ten pounds, but for the morbidly obese, whose lives are put at risk because of their obesity. Again, you have to consider everything, surgery, medication, diet, exercise, all of those factors come into play."

Medical doctors know diet pills are useful for some patients. Diet pills are reported to assist most lose weight when used correctly. Patients are instructed to use dietary and lifestyle changes in addition to taking prescription diet pills to lose weight.
Many are anxiously waiting for the FDA to approve diet pills that work without side effects. However, the Food and Drug Administration has never issued a statement that any diet pill is without health risks.
