Diet Pills? Why Not?

Cheryl Dennett
Many people who are trying to lose weight are looking for an easy way to get it done quickly. It is hard work to get down to a desirable weight, especially if you have a large amount of weight to lose. But, taking diet pills is usually not the best solution. They can be a quick fix, but in the long term, most people will not get the desired results.

The main thing to think about is that you did not gain the weight in a month. If you have a large amount of weight to lose, chances are it took several years to get into the shape you are in. To expect to lose the weight in a month, or two, is not reasonable. It is also not healthy. Losing weight quickly is a shock to your body and can damage vital organs, even your heart. When you lose weight quickly you, part of the weight you lose will be muscle. And, your heart is made up of muscle tissue. So, it stands to reason, if you lose muscle, you may lose some of your heart muscle. The diaphragm is also a muscle. And, you do not want to lose any of the muscle tissue that regulates breathing. So, if you want to stay healthy, losing weight quickly is not the way to go.

Another reason to avoid diet pills is that it is very likely that the weight lost will be gained back when diet pills are no longer used. To lose weight a person needs to change their lifestyle. There is no way the weight will stay off if you do not change eating and exercise habits. As long as you are still eating the same types of food, you will gain the weight back when you stop taking the diet pills. This happens because most people go right back to the same eating habits that caused them to gain the weight in the first place. The same logic applies to exercise. If you do not start exercising regularly, once the diet pills are gone, the weight will be back. Without these changes, using diet pills will only get the weight off for a very short amount of time.

There are also other health concerns that have nothing to do with the rate of weight loss. There is a large risk of heart damage caused by high blood pressure and high pulse rates. This damage is irreversible. Once this damage is done, you will have to deal with it for the rest of your life.

The best way to lose weight is to follow a simple plan and to make changes in your habits gradually. Take small steps to add more aerobic exercise to your schedule. All it takes to become healthier is 3 times a week for 30 minutes each time. Once you have been exercising for several months, you may desire more exercise. But, it is not required to stay healthy. Changes will also need to be made to your eating habits. Reduce the number of carbohydrates and eat more whole grains and leafy green vegetables. It is very important to read labels on the foods you are consuming. The more information you have about the foods you are putting in to your body, the better chance you have of changing your eating habits and becoming healthier.

In the long run, diet pills are not a viable solution to being overweight for most people. There are a very small number of people who need to lose weight quickly, for medical reasons. However, for the most part, diets pills are not healthy or desirable. Losing weight successfully takes hard work, determination, and perseverance.
