High Blood Pressure or hypertension is a condition in which the blood pressure is chronically elevated.There are two types of Hypertension-'essential' and 'secondary' hypertension.Hypertension is called 'Silent Killer 'since it is one of leading causes of Stroke,Heart attack,Kidney failure and can also cause Hypertensive Retinopathy ie damage to retina of eye. High Blood Pressure has no permanent cure,but can be controlled by regularly taking suitable anti-hypertensive medicines,exercise,Yoga and Pranayama,taking Suitable health supplements and following an appropriate diet plan.Below mentioned are few tips as regards to your diet:
*Avoid intake of animal fat and hydrogenated oil(saturated fat), replace it with olive oil.corn oil or sunflower oil which contain unsaturated fat.
*Avoid excess intake of protiens,salt and sugar.
*Eat plenty of Apricots,tomatoes,chickoos,watermelon,Bananas,Green leafy vegetables,Beans,Bitter gourd,Brinjal,Potato,celery,Mushrooms,Grapefruit,Oranges,Amla(Indian Gooseberry) and other rich sources of Potassium and Magnesium,two very important trace minerals for controlling your B.P.
*Also include low fat dairy products like skimmed milk,yoghurt;Fish like sardines,mackerels,salmon;Garlic and Flaxseeds in your diet.
One can also follow DASH DIET,which consists of:Grains-7-8 daily servings,Vegetables-4-5 daily servings,Fat free dairy products-2-3 daily servings,Fish and Lean meat- lessthan two daily servings,Fats and oil(unsaturated fat)-2-3 daily servings,Nuts,Seeds and Dry beans-4-5 servings a week,sweets less than 4-5 servings a week and salt less than 1 teaspoon a day.
*One should also take multi vitamin-multi mineral supplement containing sufficient quantity of trace minerals like Potassium and Magnesium.Supplements containing Co Enzyme Q10,Omega-3 Fatty Acids and Spirulina are also beneficial.
