Diet Tips for Successful Long-Term Holiday Weight Loss

Reach Long-term Weight Loss Goals Before and After the Holidays

T. McSpadden
There are many men and women whose holiday weight loss plans focus on losing a good deal of weight in as little time as possible. Most plans include fad diets, strange eating schedules, and outright starvation. Even though these modified eating habits often yield fast results, in most cases the results are short lived.

Instead of searching for ways to lose a large amount of weight in an extremely short period of time, it is best to find a way to lose a few pounds each week over long periods of time. Even though many are tempted to follow diet plans that promise quick results losing massive amounts of weight quickly is rarely safe. Choosing a long-term weight loss plan will help ensure healthy weight loss that will be consistent and, more importantly, lasting. By following a few, easy to remember, dieting tips it is possible for anyone to lose weight and keep it off.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is one of the first tips to diet effectively. Drinking a lot of water will help cleanse your system and help avoid retaining water weight. Many dehydrated individuals have found that drinking at least eight glasses of water each day helped them lose seven pounds in one week! Plus, staying hydrated with the help of water, vitamin water, and low calorie energy drink will help avoid consuming calorie packed soft drinks.

Get Rid of Calories

If you are desperate to lose weight but unable to curb your appetite try to find ways to burn, or eliminate, calories. Getting rid of calories does not have to mean counting each calorie you consume each day. Instead opt for low calorie drinks, foods, and deserts whenever possible. Pushing back even a little bit can make a huge difference in your weight loss success.

It is also important to try to burn calories that you do consume over the course of the day. Exercise of any type is recommended but it is possible for individuals leading a pretty sedentary life to burn calories during everyday activities. Shopping without a cart in the grocery store, walking quickly up a flight of stairs, parking a bit farther away from a building are all great ways to burn calories each day.

Eat Often

Instead of trying to restrict your meals increase your meal frequency. Eating normally portioned meals several times each day will boost your metabolism and reduce the chances of binge eating. Plan to start your day with a good breakfast, schedule a good lunch and a nice dinner then plan to eat at least two snacks during the day. Skipping meals and omitting snacks will often lead to over eating that is fueled by excessive hunger that could have been avoided.

Weight loss is a process that takes time when done correctly. Taking advantage of the diet tips provided and adding them to your daily routine can speed up your weight loss and improve your overall health. In time these tips will become part of your natural routine increasing your chances for long-term success.
