It's time to rediscover the health perks of fasting. Once strictly a religious practice, modern Americans are finding that fasting can accelerate weight loss when incorporated into a healthy diet. Medical experts such as Dr. Elson Hass go so far as to say that fasting is "the single greatest natural healing therapy" with the ability to detoxify the human body from the chemicals and toxins we encounter in our modern foods (source).

For this reason, more and more dieters are incporating a short fast into their weight loss diet. Not only does it help to speed up the process of shedding extra weight, but fasting can also refresh your body and cleanse you from the inside out. Most importantly, as Dr. Haas says, the detoxification through diet fasting "is an important corrective and rejuvenative process in our cycle of nutrition...when we allow our cells and organs to breathe out, become current, and restore themselves" (source).

So the logic here is that no matter how you treat fasting as your principle for losing weight faster, it doesn't even work. What are the things we need to take note about fasting, and why do we consider it as absolutely not the key to weight loss?

Fasting can cause sickness like nausea, depression, and weakness of body. And when you are sick your body needs much supplement thus leading you to overeating. Fasting could be very dangerous to your health. It is believed that when you fast some muscle is lost. This can trigger to gout - metabolic disorder commonly in men in which the excess uric acid dumps to the joints causing painful swelling.

Gout may also cause heart rhythm problems. So if ever you are planning to fast, think again. Would rather be in great danger than relying on method that is really not the key to weight loss?

Some medical experts claim that fasting does not detoxify the body. Detoxify means washing off toxic from your body. Only the liver and kidney has the ability to detoxify the body, and obviously they function even if you are fasting or not. So don't ever think of fasting as a detoxifier because no toxic are moved out in the process. If you are fasting for spiritual observance, follow certain guidelines please. Do not go beyond 24 hours of fasting. Drink lots of liquids as well to flush your uric acid. Remember that you are doing this because of your religious purpose and not they key to weight loss.

Fasting could cause you in a great danger than you can think of. However, it can be exceptionally beneficial if taken carefully and incporated with the advice of a medical professional. For all those wanting to lose weight it is best to consult a doctor or dietician for advices. There are many healthy ways to loss weight, and fasting is one of them!
