Dieting Pitfalls

Dieting Pitfalls

Dieting has become a lifestyle for many people, jumping from a low carbohydrate diet to a fat-free diet and when they find they cannot stay with that one they move on to another fad diet. Almost every magazine and weekly publication features some "new" weight loss plan that promises quick results.

The fact is we need to face the truth and decide to get serious about our dietary health. There is no magic pill or diet that is going to make the pounds disappear. Constantly depriving ourselves of the enjoyment of good food may have a negative effect on our health without ever lowering our weight.

Dietary habits may have many causes, some people are emotional eaters and others are just addicted to certain foods and this will not change until they finally decide to change their eating habits for a lifetime.

Although the right foods are necessary for good health, the consequences of not keeping our weight in control can be very serious, even life threatening.

Taking the stairs or parking farther away are only a few ways that you can make positive lifestyle changes into your daily routine. There are several activities that can get you on your feet and away from the temptation of food. You cannot lose a significant amount of weight by dieting alone.

Another pitfall of dieting is giving up too quickly. We are accustomed to getting everything in a jiffy. Fast food, fast gas, quick-trips and drive-up banking are a few examples of how we are accustomed to getting instant results.

Losing weight is not that easy, do not waste your time and money with promises of quick weight loss from pills, diet shakes, diet soups or other ridiculous weight loss schemes. Remember there is not any diet that will help you to lose ten pounds in one day, or fifteen pounds before the next holiday.

When you are dieting the bathroom scale can be your best friend or your worst enemy. You will have better success by weighing only once a week and recording the results. Keeping a weight-loss journal will encourage you to continue toward your goal.

Diets do not work without making changes in attitude and you must be willing to change your lifestyle. You can do it by making healthy food choices, eating smaller portions and getting some exercise every day.
