"No," says Mark Daniel, the founder of a successful health program. He has his own philosophy on health, saying that it consists of eating right, but not necessarily dieting.
In fact, "Diet connotes severe food restrictions, and that's not what this is about," says Daniel.
Daniel co-founded the 45pounds health program in late 2004 with his wife, for their family's own personal use.
He says that living a healthy lifestyle includes education about health. 45pounds develops individual eating programs for its clients that maintain an enjoyable variety of food. They do not promote divulging, though, as balanced eating plays a big role in the program.
"The core of the program is healthy balanced eating from all of the food groups, and education of the parent and child with regards to portion sizes and eating patterns. There are other aspects to the program, such as our exercise DVD series for kids, and custom exercise plans, but what really makes the program work is the custom meal plan. Each meal plan is custom made for each [person] based on their profile and preferences. Since it's built on food they like, that makes it easier for them to succeed."
Furthermore, they provide a wide range of diets for people, and the list is still growing as it is partially determined by each individual client.
"[We] have done vegetarian plans, kosher plans, gluten free plans, plans for kids with Downs Syndrome, plans for kids with Autism, and more," said Daniel.
More importantly, while this diet focuses on changing the lives of children, 45pounds is built for anyone who wants to have a healthy lifestyle.
According to Daniel, this diet is for "any child or adult who is not within their healthy weight range. It works for boys and girls, young and old."
It sounds great, but does it work?
Daniel believes so.
"It really is dramatic, and of course we have seen it with our own daughter. It's not just about food, it's about pride, self esteem, health, and so many other related topics."
He pointed out some of the top stories, saying, "The best family story is the Devaney's up in Maine. It was a long journey, but they have all done so well, losing over 180 pounds in total and keeping us updated on their progress. There are a lot of good individual stories. Certainly, Caleb Devaney stands out with over 50 pounds of weight loss and a totally new look, but so does Kaley in Houston and Sydney in Fresno.
What is the key to success in this program? Discipline. He explained that discipline can help anyone succeed in this program. Moreover, he urged parents to commit.
"There are times when a parent or child simply isn't committed to the program. Some parents buy the program, then do nothing, which is sad. Then there are parents who don't want to 'deprive' their child of their French fries or pizza. These people need to understand that they are doing damage to their kids, real long term damage, and that doing without fries for a couple of months will do a lot less harm than being heavy kids that grow into obese adults. The other though area is discipline. We here from parents who will say that their children refuse to eat anything except junk food. That's a case where the parent needs to be the parent and take a directive role for the health and safety of their child."
People who want to get something out of this diet will. The Daniel have experienced personal as well as corporate success in this program, and care enough to help family succeed.
The goal of the program, according to Daniel, is "to help as many children as possible get to a healthy weight and stay there...It is our mission to help overweight children through education of both parent and child on the principles of healthy eating, through understanding the nutritional needs of the child, and by providing the direction, guidance and support necessary to succeed."
Daniel referred visitors to www.45pounds.com to see complete testimonials from those who have won the battle with their weight problems. While there, people can also learn more about the program, and sign up.
