Differences Between Anemia and Leukemia

There are many differences between Anemia's and Leukemia's. Anemia's and Leukemia's are completely different from each other in several ways. Both are blood disorders that have many different effects on the body.

Anemia's mean a lack of blood, hemoglobin, or even both. Anemias are red blood cells that do not give off enough oxygen to the meet the body's requirements. According to (Cecie Starr/Beverly McMillan) (2005) "All types of anemia are the result of other underlying disorders." (Page 151) There are forms of anemia that have the possibility of being prevented with proper nutrition. For example there are four types of anemias: "Iron Deficiency Anemia, Folic Acid and Vitamin B Deficiency Anemia, Aplastic Anemia, and Hemolytic Anemia." The differences between each of the anemia's cause the body to feel extremely fatigued. There are several treatments for anemias. For some people they may be required to take iron supplements, blood transfusions, or vitamin injections. Anemia frequently goes undetected due to the fact that the symptoms often occur with other disorders; the symptoms may even be puzzling to doctors.

Leukemia's are white blood cells. Leukemia is a cancer of either the blood, or bone marrow. People with Leukemia have problems with clotting their blood and may even be more vulnerable to bleeding and bruising. There is a less severe case of Leukemia, known as Aleukemia. This disorder is similar to Leukemia; however this type of cancer only gets presented into bone marrow without the possibility of getting into the blood stream. They are a type of cancer that is in the body's cell that can be make a person very ill, and could even kill someone if they don't get the right kind of treatment that they need.

According to (Cecie Starr/Beverly McMillan) (2005) "Leukemia's tend to strike children, the marrow cavities in bones become choked with cancerous white blood cells." (Page 151) Leukemia is basically brought on by an over abundance of cells. They cause the body to develop multiple symptoms for an example here are some fever, weight loss, bleeding, pain, and infections. "Although any cancer can be life-threatening, effective modern treatments for leukemia's now saved thousands of lives." (Starr/ McMillan, 2005, P. 151) Leukemia's can be treated by chemotherapy, radiation therapy, surgery, and bone marrow transplantation. It depends on what kind of leukemia you have that would determine what type of treatment your doctor will give you.
