Massage is a wonderful art and experience that can be enhanced with the use of massage oil. Oils have been used throughout history to enhance the experience of massage, and remain an integral part of a worthwhile massage. Massage oils come in various types and varieties, each one connected to a different purpose, each with its positive characteristics and special uses.
There are many types of oils used for massage therapy, including, but certainly not limited to, sweet almond oil, coconut oil, olive oil, and even emu oil. These are some of the base ingredients that can be used in creating massage oil, and oftentimes oils will contain additional ingredients, such as aloe vera, to add extra benefits to the oil.
Learning about the different properties, benefits and effects of various oils that can be used as massage oil is a great way to be able to pick and choose the perfect one for your purposes. Some basic oils, for example, are more suited for treating eczema, and some others may be more suited for relieving muscle pain.
When choosing massage oil that is scented, it is important to also find out what is being used to add fragrance to the oil. Massage oils can be scented with essential oils, which are all natural and very concentrated, or they can be scented with fragrance oils, which are cheaper, but very often are of lower quality and may be mixed with synthetic materials. Essential oils can be therapeutic and are integral additions to good quality massage oils, and there is a wide variety of essential oils with different purposes available to be added to basic oils. Essential oils are better quality and are much less likely to cause any negative physical reactions on a user than fragrance oils.
Essentially, when making your choice, you must keep in mind many different aspects of the massage oil. First, the base oil is very important, because you will want one that you not only like for it's consistency and feel, but for it's benefits and advantages. Second, it is important to take note of any special ingredients and see if they will be compatible with that you are looking for in a massage oil. Last but not least, when choosing an oil it is important for you to not only be attracted to an oil's scent, but also to be aware of what was used to give an oil it's scent.
