Are you ready to buy a motorcycle? I'm sure that when you think of a motorcycle a chopper comes into mind. However before you make your decision you should be aware that there are many different kinds to choose from.
1. Dual-Sport- The dual sport bike is designed for both pavement and off road use. They basically look like a beefed up dirt bike. They usually get pretty good gas mileage and are not very expensive. They do not have as much protection as some other motorcycles, and do not have as good of a carrying capacity for extras in general as other bikes do. These bikes are not the best for long distance cruises, but the higher end models can suit the needs of most.
2. Sport- These bikes, sometimes called crotch rockets, are made for speed and maneuverability. They usually have strong engines in a comparatively light weight frame. These bikes are thrill seekers and are not particularly ideal for those who want to go on long distance rides. Compared to other bikes, these are not as practical for actual street use because of their speed design. They offer less features because they are mainly built for speed and handling. These bikes will provide plenty for the young thrill seeker however.
3. Touring- These bikes are build for comfort for long distance rides. They usually have large gas tanks and a big frame. They are more upright and relaxed then sports bikes and offer more protection from the elements then other bikes do. These are great bikes for those that are looking for a bike for commuting and long distance rides a like. They are also better for older people because they are more comfortable and do not have the rider leaning over the gas tank to reach the handle bars which is the case with the Sport design.
4. Sport Touring- These bikes are a cross between the sport and touring models. They are built for comfort, while still maintaining most of the speed and the forward leaning design of the sport models, along with good handling. They are still very sporty looking and are a good choice.
5. Dirt Bikes- These bikes are built for off road use. They are capable of going very fast, and are not built for comfort. They are very lightweight, and as such they do not have many extra features, if any. They are good for those that do not plan to use their motorcycle on the road, and are merely looking for an off-road adventure. They are not street legal. If you are looking for street legal then you should take a look at the Dual-Sport models.
