Different Ways to Make Curtain Tie Backs

Curtain Tie Back Tips and Ideas

Usually tie backs come with the curtains. But over time after several washings the tie backs become unsown or unraveled. Some have tassels that get tangled then pull off or apart. Fortunately most curtains themselves last much longer than the ties.

Here are the items needed or can be used to make the curtain tie backs; material, thread, liquid stitch, and lace.

It is not hard to make different tie backs to match the curtains. Ties aren't usually very large. Being so it doesn't cost a lot to make them. The sizes are between two inches to 5 inches wide. The length is about twelve to twenty four inches long.

First thing to decide is the color that will match the curtain then the size. With this the amount of material needed is known. Keep in mind that lace comes in all different sizes. It can be used as a tie back, on around the edge or cover the material just for a different look.

The curtain ties can be sewn or liquid stitch can be used. When using the liquid stitch it will have to dry before continuing some parts. After selecting the material it will need to be measured to be cut. Fold the material together so it can be cut on the fold. Turn right side of the material inward then attach one end and side. When finished turn the tie right side out. Next turn the edge of the open end in to connect. Lace can be attached around the edge of the tie back if desired. If choosing to use just the lace for the tie there is no stitching done at all. Just cut the width and length of the lace needed then hang around the curtain.

Another idea is to place a thin elastic strip or strips to the inside before stitching. This will make a little ruffle look. Or take a piece of lace covering the whole piece of material then stitch.

Now a hole will need to be made for the hook. One idea would be to use the machine to make a button hole. Another take a ring then attach to the end by sewing it to the material. Looping it several times to secure it well.

When finished the tie backs are ready to be hung for a new more decorative look. These tie backs will last the life of the curtain.
