There are several symptoms of shyness, such as blushing, heart pounding, having an unsettled stomach, hard time holding a conversation and strong feelings of uncertainty. Most of the symptoms are caused by a lack of confidence. Other causes are from having an inferiority complex, negative thinking patterns, unaware of what behavior is expected in social settings and fear from previous experiences.
You do not have to remain shy if you work to overcome your fears. Learn how to relax, especially when you are in social settings and around unfamiliar people. Most shy people get anxious when they are put in unfamiliar, social settings. By practicing relaxation exercises, such as taking deep breaths, and thinking positive thoughts, you will help yourself loosen up and will be able to enjoy your dating experiences.
Another way to overcome your shyness is by facing any fears from your past. Recognize what may have occurred to bring on your shyness, and try to resolve your fears to break out of your shell. Develop an attitude of not carrying what anyone thinks about you. This will help ease your anxiety in those social situations and help build your self confidence.
Also, learn to be comfortable in your own skin. Have high self esteem about yourself and a strong sense of who you are. The more self-assured you are about yourself, the more likely your shyness will diminish when you are in social settings. Correcting your body language will help you tremendously. You can change small, bad habits, such as slouching when you sit or not standing up straight. Also, practice walking with your head up and shoulders high and look people in the eye when conversing. These small changes can help make you feel more confident about yourself and more relaxed when you are meeting new people.
Overcoming your shyness will make it easier for you to function in social environments and increase your dating possibilities. By recognizing the cause of your shyness, learning to face your fears and building your self confidence, you will help ensure your dating experiences are enjoyable ones and be able to attract the dating prospects that you want.
