Digg's New IPhone App Review

John Rivers
There is a lot of talking going on about the Digg's new iPhone app. Digg had a nice mobile site for a long time which was quite good to browse from mobile devices. However, the site produced an iPhone app, which still does pretty much the same stuff but with higher speed, a lot smoother and includes more features.

The interesting fact is whether the whole buzz about the Digg's new iPhone app is so intense because the site is so popular or the app truly brings the innovative ideas and people are able to use the site in a whole new way because now you can perform on the Digg with almost all features.

Before the release of the Digg app on the iPhone, I thought that it will not make that big of a deal and it will not differ much from the Safari browser version. I was wrong. As soon as I tried the new application, it was clear to me that I will never get back to browsing Digg using Safari browser. Digg's application gives the user better browsing; the layout and the design is not changed much and this application does not show photos near the headlines unlike in desktop the version but that does not bother me because it would make the page load slowly and the size of the pictures would be too small. If you click a little blue arrow on the right side of the Digg post, you will get a thumbnail whit the description and more info; you will also see a little snapshot.

If you click a link on the Digg's iPhone app, which is outside Digg.com, the page will load through the application itself, not Safari, however you won't be able to see the new site in landscape mode and this is a little frustrating. Despite that, you get a browser integrated in the app. At the bottom of the application you'll see more features like: Digg or bury the link posted; read comments, share with other social networks like Twitter or Facebook. These options work at a blink of an eye in the app, unlike in the Safari. You can use iPhone's copy and paste functions as well.

All in all, Digg's new iPhone app is surely a better way to browse Digg.com and it includes a bunch of features which work very smoothly. Source: Digg.com
