Diggy Simmons Gets Deal with Atlantic Records, Twitter Users Instigate
Simmons Family Proves They Stick Together and Support Family
But Jo Jo is not worried about what the Tweets have to say. Instead of getting mad at the Tweets, JoJo joined in and tweeted the following from his Twitter account @YoungSimmons:
"#jojomustfeellike Diggy is gon take over and I'm there to support him! Family don't compete with each other we complete each other."
"Yall all wilding I knew about it congrats to my bro @diggy_simmons we major now bro!simmons taking over again and ima keep pushing Young!"
AngelaSimmons, the youngest of Reverend Run's biological daughters, joined in congratulating her brother from her Twitter account @AngelaSimmons:
"Supporting @diggy_simmons signin on the line proud of him I use to change his pampers lol http://tweetphoto.com/15440174"
You think Diggy was embarrassed by Angela Simmon's tweet? No, he retweeted it and had on quite the fashionable outfit in the picture she linked.
Vanessa Simmons didn't take too kindly to the Twitter users who chose to instigate instead of congratulate. She started off by congratulating Diggy by saying:
"Proud of my Bro @diggy_simmons doing what he's destined to do! And u know this Mannnn! :)"
But then she came for the Twitter users participating in the #jojomustfeellike trending topic with:
"i pray for all ya'll tryna make siblings go against one another! shame on yall fools.. smh! good luck #simmonstakeover"
Not surprisingly, GlobalGrind.com has Diggy on the homepage with a shocked expression at the news and a caption that says, "Congratulations to Diggy Simmons for signing to Atlantic Records." Global Grind's Web site is owned by producer, fashion designer, vegan and activist Russell Simmons, Diggy Simmons' uncle. Russell Simmons and Reverend Run are two clear examples of how brothers can succeed by working together instead of trying to top each other.
It looks like the Simmons' family sticks together on and off the cameras.
Twitter is a great networking tool and an excellent way to keep up with what's in the now, but it's not the first time that Twitter users have made a mockery of important issues. The same thing happened when Rihanna and Chris Brown were publicly dealing with their domestic dispute. Twitter users chose to make fun of Rihanna's forehead instead of listening to what she had to say about women who were in battered relationships. At one point, Chris Brown closed his Twitter account in December 2009 but came back this month. With the good comes the bad, but as long as the family sticks together, that's what counts.
Congratulations to Diggy Simmons and Jo Jo Simmons for following in the footsteps of Run DMC, keeping hip hop positive, stylish and fresh.

Post a CommentChristopher, I'm trying to figure out how you compared the two of you? Were you going for a life in the music industry? You writing on AC has nothing to do with Diggy getting a record deal? As far as whose business it is, he markets to the public so technically it's his fan's business. I don't get where you were going with this comment.
There will always be haters. I do think nepotism may have had something to do with it, but he has a deal I'm still on here writing articles so what business is it of mine how he got in?
Hi Erik, thanks for checking out the entry. This is a prime example of why I'm not surprised when I read reports about how celebrities like Beyonce don't check e-mails, get on the Internet or have cell phones. Sometimes you get a little too close to your audience, and they can be that much nastier if they think you're reading. I'm all about constructive criticism, but that hashtag was just plain tacky.
Nice analysis of how Twitter can be both a tool and a weapon. Hope to continue to see more uses that are for good!
Thanks for reading, Lyn. I think the Simmons' family will be just fine. They clearly have two powerhouse examples of how family can work together to make themselves even better. Angela and Vanessa have Pastry gymshoes. Russell Simmons and Reverend Run clearly had a hand in hip hop, in addition to Russell Simmons producing HBO's "Def Poetry Jam" and "Def Comedy Jam." And now it's time for the sons to get their feet wet, too.
Now that's what I call family. Great writeup! :-)
