Digital Frame Review: Kodak Pulse

Deborah Woehr
I have always wanted a digital frame to display my family and vacation pictures for everyone to enjoy. So when I went to Best Buy last week and saw this frame, I had to get it. Two things attracted me to this particular digital frame: the Kodak name and the sleek Apple-like look of the frame.

The $100 price tag was the deciding factor. I took it home, removed it from the box and followed the instructions. Other than the frame and the power plug/adapter, there wasn't anything to install. The Kodak digital frame is compatible with both PC and Mac. There is no software to install on your computer, but you will need a network connection in order to go through the setup wizard.

The setup wizard was pretty straightforward. The only problems I had were trying to upload some of my pictures. For some reason, they wouldn't upload. The Kodak system didn't give me any reason why (i.e., corrupted file, file too large, etc.) it couldn't upload a particular shot, so I deleted it so that I could upload the other pictures.

Each time I uploaded pictures, it would take a few moments to appear on the digital frame. By default, it scrambles the order of the pictures that it receives. At first, I didn't like that but then changed my mind because I thought it added interest to the photos.

Sending pictures to my frame via my Kodak email was successful. However, I would have preferred the option to choose whatever email address that I want to use. This is one more email and password that I have to remember now. I have yet to try sending pictures through my Facebook account of cell phone because I am not interested in those features. All of the pictures that I have are on my digital camera.

I look forward to testing out how well the SD card works because I would like to include the photos that I was not able to upload. I would like to have more control over how the pictures are displayed. For instance, I have quite a few portrait orientation photos that were taken sideways. I would love to have the capability to manipulate them so that they faced upwards instead of sideways.

Up to this point, I have enjoyed this digital frame. The picture quality is great. Uploading photos to the Kodak website is virtually error-free. You can set the time intervals for your pictures' display durations. My kids like this also and look forward to sending their own contributions to our new family album.
