Dina Meyer Movies: Movies You Are Missing that Are Worth Watching

Merz
Actress Dina Meyer has had work on several decent TV shows. With one of the three leading ladies in the WB's short-lived Birds of Prey, a featured character in Point Pleasant, and guest stints on popular shows, such as Friends and Miss Match, Dina's TV resume looks impressive. Sadly, her movie resume is a bit more bleak, despite the fact that she has been in all of the Saw movies. As someone who would sit through a blizzard to watch Dina race sled dogs, I have seen almost all of Dina's movies that I can get my hands on. Finding these films is not difficult. However, sitting through them can be a challenge at times. I am used to finding Dina movies in the bargain bin at Big Lots. And I have come to terms with it. I know that she has got to making a living; and she does it with a lot of bad movies that I am pretty sure she knows are bad movies but she takes them to pay the rent. Most of Dina's work has been rather lacking in the respectability factor, but there are a few - and I do mean only a few - gems.

The Movie Hero - A movie about a man who is convinced his life is a movie, and that he has an audience watching him at all times. Since he is the hero, they want him to be heroic and win. Dina plays the love interest. No, really. That's what he calls her. In the Movie Hero's reality, she is his therapist, but in his movie, she's... well, you get the point.

This is one of the most innovative and interesting movies to come out in quite some time, and it took a while getting there. It was shot in 2003 and was just released to DVD and cable at the end of last year. Lucky us. It has recently been in pretty heavy rotation on the Showtime channels.

Stranger Than Fiction - Not to be confused with the Will Ferrell movie from 2006, this film, made in 2000, is a truly great film. It is a quirky and intriguing dark comedy about four friends and a very bad bit of murder. It comes complete with Dina wielding a baseball bat and an evil eye. This one plays quite a bit on the cable movie channels.

His and Her Christmas - It is a Lifetime movie for sure, a Lifetime original movie to be exact, but Dina Meyer makes this movie something to see. Following your basic Lifetime premise of fighting man and woman realize they are meant to be together for all eternity, this film had little in the way of uniqueness. It did, however, have Dina, standing on a desk in the vein of Norma Rae. Okay, so maybe not Norma Rae, but still, there was a great deal of passion.

Unspeakable - This is not a great movie, but it's not a completely unwatchable movie. This movie is good to watch for one reason. Watch this movie if you have ever asked yourself, "Can Dina Meyer really act?" Uh, yeah, she can, circles around all of Hollywood's leading ladies.

I do not know why Dina Meyer is so far on the outskirts of Hollywood's radar. For years, she's been in films that are beneath her talent. Here is hoping someone will rediscover her soon.
