Hot on the heels of the recent pet food recall, there is another company calling back its products in the name of safety. Eight in One is recalling packages of its Dingo brand dog, cat, and ferret food. The reason for the recall this time is due to concerns over salmonella poisoning. The company says that the bacteria could affect both the animals and the people who are handling the treats.
The products affected are Dingo Chick'N Jerky for dogs, Dingo Kitty Chicken Jerky for cats, and Dingo Chicken Jerky for ferrets. The company release states that these products were sold at Target, PetSmart, and other retailers. Eight in One also states that the Food and Drug Administration is aware of this recall.
If you are worried that you or your pet has been affected by the tainted Dingo treats, there are some signs to watch for. In humans, some of the symptoms include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever. Salmonella poisoning can also result in more serious conditions such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract infection, though these cases are rare. Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly after handling any Dingo products to help ensure any bacteria is gone.
Pets with salmonella infections may be lethargic, or sleepy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets may only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. It is possible for pets to be carriers and spread the bacteria to other animals or humans. If your pet has been in contact with any of these Dingo treats, contact your veterinarian.
The company has only received one report of poisoning in a dog, and no reports in humans. If you have purchased any of the Dingo Chicken Jerky Treats, you should stop using the treats immediately. Eight in One has told consumers who are looking to inquire about refunds to call their Consumer Affairs hotline number at 1-888-232-9889.
As of yet, the company is still unsure as to how the bacteria got into the treats, but is issuing this voluntary recall of their Dingo products as a precautionary measure. This, and more information, is available at the Eight in One website, http://www.eightinonepet.com/, under the links entitled Dingo Pet Treat Recall.
The thing to remember is that this recall is only to air on the side of caution. There have only been one case of poisoning and that only some of the lab tests showed the bacteria present.

Post a Commenti would like to know if dingo munchy sticks p 20665 has been recalled
I bought my dog the Dingo Dental Sticks, thinking it would do her teeth some good. After giving her one stick in mid morning after breakfast, she chewed it up right away, then the next day after giving her one and she ate it a bit later she started vomiting and would not eat her regular food, she was not playing or running around as usual. For a ten month old lab not wanting to play, I knew something was wrong. We did not give her anymore for a couple days and she was fine again. To my own stupidity, I gave her one more, she threw up instantly. That was when I decided to check on line and call the company. I will not try new pet products again without doing more research. Hope this helped at least one person and thier pet.
It would be so scary if your pet got sick from food you feed them!
Great information :)

Our pet Rosie, a 3 year old Chihuahua was poisoned from Chinese made Bestro's Jerky Chicken Strips #77849 00006 1 We have this contaminated bag. Up until today we never had any idea what happened but now with Wal Mart pulling this quietly from their selves. (I brought my treats at Wal Mart, Glendora, California) I truly believe that is why she died. Rosie wants all dog owners to be aware of this and a Total Recall of this chinese junk pet food treats so other puppies don't slowly suffer is she did. We are totally heartbroken and will never forget Our Sweet Gypsy Rose!
Since Wal Mart had this problem before, why didn't they pull all that Chinese junk off the first time? Our Rosie will still be alive! Is Wal Mart concerned about people and their Pets or Money? You figured it out.

Great information, I thought it was food for Dingos!!
Thanks for the information about the recall. It seems that when it rains it pours.
I'm still not too happy feeding my cats foods that contain certain products
It's really scary when you realize just how vulnerable food supplies are, pet AND human.
I'm at the point of just feeding the pets and praying. Good article!
