The Chateau on the Lake is located on the outskirts of Branson, on a mountaintop in theOzarks, overlooking scenic Table Rock Lake. The views from the resort are stunning, with lake views and views of the foliage on the mountainsides.
The restaurant is located in the Atrium lobby of the hotel. The atrium is 10 stories high and overlooks a water feature, with waterfalls.
We were asked if we wanted to dine in the fine dining restaurant, called The Grille, or the casual restaurant, called the Atrium Cafe. We chose the Atrium Cafe, which was next to the indoor water feature. We were seated next to a rail overlooking the water feature. Looking down, we could see the water tumbling over the falls and Koi fish swimming. There was also an exotic bird, located in a cage that was hanging next to the indoor pond.
The setting of this restaurant was the loveliest we had seen in Branson. The atrium brought the beauty of the outdoors inside. From where we were seated, we could see guests that looked like they were going to a wedding.
We each ordered a glass of wine, priced between $7 - $14, and looked at the menu. The selections included sandwiches, salads and main dishes. Prices ranged from $10 to $20 and appeared to be a bit overpriced.
I asked the server for his recommendation and he enthusiastically endorsed the Country Fried Steak ($15.95), stating that was the 'real deal' and the steak was a NY Strip Steak. Country Fried Steak is not a dish that I would usually order, due the the fat and calories, but I decided to try it out. My companion ordered the Fried Haddock Fillet with Fries. The meals came with a small basket of fresh rolls.
The server delivered the meals within ten minutes. My Country Fried Steak was a NY Strip Steak, which had been breaded and covered with gravy, served with mashed potatoes. This Country Classic tasted good, but the thick gravy was very rich and I probably should have ordered a lighter meal.
We agreed that the food was good, but not great. The feature that sets this restaurant apart from other Branson
restaurants was the lovely ambiance. We had a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience at the Chateau on the Lake. I recommend this restaurant for the atmosphere and setting.
The restaurant was the finest we experienced during out trip to Branson. Fall Creek Steakhouse in Branson had a more casual atmosphere.
Chateau on the Lake Resort is located at the junction of Highways 265 and 165, near Table Rock Dam and the Showboat Branson Belle.
