Dining Guide for the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona

Football and Food is a Fiesta in Phoenix!

Lynn Pritchett
Just ten minutes east of Phoenix's Sky Harbor Airport, in the University Drive and Mill Avenue District near Arizona State University, is a potpourri of great culinary choices for the fan gearing-up for Fiesta Bowl events.

Oregano's Pizza Bistro: 523 W. University Drive, Tempe, AZ 85281, phone 480-858-0501, Open 10-11 Sun-Thurs, 11-11 Fri & Sat.:

Five more Oregano's in the greater Phoenix area: (TEMPE site is only one open to 11 PM Fri-Sat) Others open to 10 PM only. Eat-in or Take-out. Reservations welcome. Oregano's is always jumping! Everything's homemade and Dean Martin is often singing in the background. Favorites bringing this foodie back for more? Artichoke Lasagna, Bistro Classic Thin Crust or Deep Dish with Sausage. Gotta have their hot, gooey, giant Pizza Cookie for dessert too! Oregano's has a variety of beer on tap, wine, various non-alcoholic beverages, including brewed iced teas and by-the-cup brewed coffee.

House of Tricks: 114 E 7th Street, Tempe, AZ, phone 480- 968-1114, Open Mon-Sat, 11-10

House of Tricks is well-known for their large and unique wine menu, with occasional special wine events. Menu choices vary in homemade soups, winter squash ravioli, seared salmon flatbread sandwich, or braised provincial beef pot pie and much more.

Rula Bula Irish Pub & Restaurant: 401 S. Mill Ave, Tempe, AZ 85181, phone 480-929-9500, Open 11am-2am, 7 dys/wk.

Roughly translated from an Irish phrase as "uproar and commotion" in the most playful and fun way, Rula Bula is a lively place for a good pint, Irish and American food, and a good time. All in all, it's a great place for good solid food like Shepherd's Pie, Corned Beef and Cabbage, Boxty, and of course a pint of Guinness or other favorite beer on tap. Rula Bula also satisfies the good old American hamburger hunger pains.

Downtown Glendale is a good central place to settle-in for a good, solid meal too. Dining and shopping are a good bet there and it is central to everywhere in the Phoenix area.
