Dinner at Anello's Torch Lite in Shawano, Wisconsin

Sophia Moon
You may want to take your sweetheart out for a romantic dinner on Valentine's Day. If you live in or around Shawano, Wisconsin you may consider Anello's Torch Lite. They offer dining, cuisine, and Italian food. Located at 1276 E. Green Bay Street in the city of Shawano, the outward appearance of this establishment is the typical unimpressive look of most businesses in this city.

The bar and restaurant areas are cramped and may not be suitable for the claustrophobic individual. If you would prefer personal space for you and your honey over your romantic dinner, due to the close quarters in the dining area, you will feel as if you are dining right along with the strangers around you. If you are a non-smoker the excessive smoke in this environment may become overwhelming, making your dining experience nauseating. On a positive note, the bar and restaurant are relatively clean.

They are open seven days a week and it is in your best interest to make reservations, as they are usually required, especially for such a big day as Valentine's Day. It has been my experience that the food is prepared well and usually according to customer preference. The food I've eaten here has been flavorful. They offer a reasonably healthy salad bar and the dinner portions are quite large. (This writer suggests eating half or less than half of your entree and making a lunch out of left-overs as this portion, when eaten in one sitting is entirely too many calories for one meal and a good example of why such a large percentage of Americans are obese.)

Owners here boast that they are the only restaurant in Wisconsin where the bartenders and wait staff wear sequined vests. Although this uniform is not impressive to me, nor have I bothered to find out if other restaurants decorate their staff in sequins, I found the wait staff to be friendly and courteous, the bartenders to be somewhat solemn , and the owners to be quite pious.

One of the main attractions to this restaurant is a petting zoo. To some, this may be a bonus. I, however, find llamas and alpacas, exotic rabbits, miniature horses and donkeys, exotic fowl, and other animals best left to the zoo and kept away from a food establishment. A bunch of stinky, hairy animals do not whet my appetite. Enough said.

On a scale of 1-10 I give this restaurant a 3.

I'm always leery of restaraunts that serve meat AND have a petting zoo. Was that picture from the zoo or the menu?
