Directions for Dinner in a Jar Recipe: Holiday Spice Cookies

1
Place two bowls on the kitchen counter and divide the holiday spice cake mix evenly into each bowl. Only 1/2 the box of cake mix will be used for each dinner in a jar: holiday spice cookie recipe. Gather the raisins and walnuts and place those in bowls as well.
2
In a clean, dry quart sized Mason jar, pour 1/3 of the holiday spice cake mix from one bowl into the jar. Top with raisins. Pour 1/2 of the remaining holiday spice cake mix into the Mason jar. Add enough walnuts to match the layer of raisins. Pour the remaining holiday spice cake mix into the Mason jar and sprinkle a few raisins and walnuts on top.
3
Place the seal on the jar. Cut the index card in half. Look at the box of holiday spice cake mix and note the total amount of oil required for the recipe. Divide that amount in half. For example, if the cake mix requires 1/3 cup of oil each jar will require about 5 1/2 tablespoons of oil. Write the amount of oil required on the index card along with "one egg". The instructions can also be added to the index card. These should read, "Add egg and oil. Mix well. Drop tablespoon sized portions on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Enjoy!"
4
Sit the index card with instructions on top of the seal. Cover with a small swatch of holiday fabric centered on the seal. Tighten the ring lid in place. Wrap a ribbon around the jar and tie in place.
Tip
Feel free to spice up this dinner in a jar recipe: holiday spice cookies with other dry ingredients. Fruit and nuts work well with the holiday spices.
