Dip it in Chocolate for Holiday Gift Giving!

Janet Trieschman
Chocolate Candy can be easy to make. It is fun to have children help create these tasty selections. Actually, these are a variation on one process utilizing melted chocolate. This candy is easy and quick to make. Making it great for children with limited attention spans. If you keep the materials on hand, you always have a hostess gift or thank you gift on hand.

To begin, you want to melt chocolate. To do so, there are a few different ways to do this. I prefer using a plastic baggie and melt chocolate in the microwave. Begin with setting the microwave at 30 seconds. Remove the bag and blend the chocolate by massaging the bag. Replace it in the microwave and cook at 15-second intervals with mixing in between each heating until the chocolate is melted. Alternately, you can heat the chocolate in a glass-measuring cup and stir between heating.

The variations on a Theme

Using the plastic baggie with melted chocolate, snip one corner of the bag and squeeze the chocolate into molds. Tap the mold on the tabletop surface and place in the freezer to harden. Within a few minutes you have molded chocolate.

Pretzels in chocolate

You can roll pretzel rods in chocolate and then apply sprinkles or colored sugar to the chocolate before it hardens. Another pretzel option is to dip pretzels into the chocolate and set aside to harden. Broken pieces can be added to the chocolate and then spread out onto parchment paper to harden. Once hardened, break into bark like pieces.

Potato Chips

Yes I said potato chips. Ruffled chips dipped three quarters into chocolate make for a beautiful presentation as well as a unique taste. There is a blend of sweet and salty all in one bite.

Peppermint

What to do with a broken candy cane? Smash it more and add it to chocolate. I suggest using white chocolate for a very beautiful presentation. Mix the peppermint into the melted chocolate and spread out on parchment paper. Once hardened, break up into bark pieces.

Oreos

Why buy dipped oreos when you can do it yourself. Whether you use white or brown chocolate, these taste great. You can add your own touch by adding icing or a sugar decoration on the top.

Nuts

Chocolate and nuts are not new. Why not make your own. Dip the nuts into the chocolate and allow them to harden. Crushed or broken pieces can be used similarly to the above suggestions and make bark. Again, white or brown chocolate can be used.

Peanut butter Crackers

Take two Ritz crackers and spread a layer of peanut butter between them making a cracker sandwich. Now dip this into the chocolate similar to the oreos above. These taste so rich and fancy but in reality they are so easy and simple to make.

What else can you dip? It really is up to your imagination and taste. How about dried fruit? You could try animal crackers. Utilize the small amount of cereal you have left over in the bottom of the box and make a bark. Do you have caramel pieces left over from Halloween? Dip them in chocolate.
