Diprivan, Deadly Anesthesia Found in Michael Jackson's Home

Did Diprivan Play a Role in MJ's Death?

Mary E. Coe
Diprivan, an anesthesia that must only be used in the hospital in controlled environments, was found in Michael Jackson's home. Diprivan, a brand name for propofol, is for use only in the hospital in controlled environments in the operating room. Doctors use diprivan to put patients under during an operations. An anesthesiologist is in the operating room, to monitor the patient's vital signs. The patient is hooked up to an IV and the diprivan is administered through IV. If the patient runs into problems, everything that's needed to help or survive the patient is right there in the operating room.

This is not a medication to be used outside the hospital. If there is an overdose, there is no reversal agents, you are gone you will die. This medication puts the patient into an induced coma. The whole brain is put to sleep. There are no reversal agents if a patient overdoses on diprivan.

Recently, Cherilyn Lee, a nurse that once treated Michael Jackson, was on CNN, she said MJ begged her for diprivan, just three months ago, he told her that he was willing to pay any amount of money if he could find someone to help him get to sleep. This is a very, very, sad situation. Michael Jackson suffered from insomnia. He had a serious sleeping problem. He only wanted to be able to sleep. He told the nurse that his doctor assured him that diprivan was a safe medication, but, someone had to monitor him while he slept. If there is anyone out there who suffers from serious insomnia, you can relate to what Michael Jackson was going through. However, diprivan should never be used for insomnia. There are safe medications that can be used to treat sleeping disorders.

I just cannot imagine a doctor or anesthesiologist giving this man such a potent, powerful and dangerous sedative. But, it was found in his home. Someone must have introduced it to him and gave it to him. All doctors take the oath: First do no harm. Did someone forget that oath? Doctors don't give prescriptions for this drug. You cannot get this drug with a prescription at any pharmacy. It is a deadly sedative. An overdose can be deadly. However, it is not known if Michael used this drug. It was confirmed that the drug was found in his home after his death. It was not confirmed that the drug was in his body. It will be weeks before the results of the autopsy tests are known.

There are so many safe medications to treat a patient that suffers from insomnia; no way should a patient have diprivan available to them. This must only be used in the hospital, in a controlled environment.

It was reported by CNN that Dr. Nell Ratner, anesthesiologist, and another doctor traveled with MJ in 1996-1997 on tours. It was reported that MJ traveled with a Mini-clinic" including an IV pole. Dr. Ratner have not admitted that he traveled with MJ or that he ever gave Michael Jackson diprivan or any other medication. The doctor did say that this is not the time to talk about it because Michael Jackson family was still grieving and MJ has not been buried. He appeared to be very upset over MJ's death and said MJ was his friend and he lost a friend when MJ died.

Did Michael Jackson have to die? He desperately needed sleep. Doctors could have found safe medications to treat this man for his sleeping disorder. If diprivan is found in Michael's body, doctors that was treating him or with him when he died have a lot of questions to answer. Michael Jackson was desperate, for a good night's sleep. He was willing to pay any amount of money to anyone who could help him sleep. Diprivan knocks the patient out, puts the patient's whole brain to sleep. Induced coma in not a treatment for a sleep disorder. There are safe medications to help a patient sleep.

A death investigation is going on. LAPD now has help from DEA and Attorney General Office with this investigation.

I still remember when the Jackson 5 arrived on the musical scene. His death was so unexpected and sad having watched him grow and mature. He was a troubled man and quite talented.

Wendy, I agree with what you said. I believe he could have used psychological help, he was in bad shape. I will post an up date.
