Dirty Dancing: Best 80's Movie of All Time!

Starring Patrick Swayze, Jennifer Grey, Jerry Orbach

Released in 1987, Dirty Dancing became an instant sensation. It is one of my favorite movies and I would recommend it to anyone who is in need of a romantic or dancing movie. It is usually on TV so watch out for it! Starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey in main roles and Kelly Bishop and Jerry Orbach in supporting roles and as Jennifer Grey's parents. Even though, Dirty Dancing was a low budget film, it was a major box office hit making over 60 times what it cost to make the movie. It had cost $5,000,000 to make the movie and has returns of more than $300,000,000. I would say that is a huge major success. Critics were not kind to Dirty Dancing at first but people went and saw the movie anyway. As the movie became a hit, so did the co-stars as Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey got many movie offers.

Don't want to get into too much detail about the plot for people who have yet to see it but it is set in the 1960's, about a girl named Baby (played by Jennier Grey) who is vacationing with her parents in a fancy resort in New York (the Catskill Mountains. There, she goes to a dancing club in the resort and meets Johnny Castle (played by Patrick Swayze). At first Johnny is really mean to Baby and even ignores her but as they become closer, they fall in love. Johnny agrees to teach her how to dance and puts her under his wing. At first, Baby is not a great dancer but she becomes better with lots of practice. As her dancing skills grows, so grows her love for Johnny and vice versa. There are obstacles they face from all sides that they have to get through ... Just want to say that the last scene is a memorable scene and one of the most popular ones from any movie all time.

Another great success was the Dirty Dancing Soundtrack. It was a very popular soundtrack and included the great song "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" which was played in the last scene of the movie. The soundtrack won the Golden Globe for Best Song as well as the Academy Award for Best Song. Many catch phrases were made famous following this movie but the most popular one has to be at the end of the movie when Johnny talks to Baby's father and says: "Nobody put's Baby in a corner". There was even a sequel to this movie called Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights which was released in 2004 and had a cameo with Patrick Swayze.
