Claudia Bova claims an NYPD cop, Detective Charles Derosalia, "forced her to pull her pants down so he could photograph a below-the-navel tattoo with a cell phone camera," according to the NY Daily News. The alleged naughty business took place in a bathroom right in the Brooklyn DA's office. Such behavior would be considered an illegal strip-search as male cops are not allowed to search female prisoners.
It appears as though Bova made her complaint in 2007 and the Internal Affairs Bureau (IAB) has been investigating Derosalia. They found 17 other women who accused him of strip-searches.
The cop denies the charges and says the women are all lying druggies. Derosalia is a Narc. He arrested Bova in a Coney Island drug sweep.
Bova's lawyer filed suit against Derosalia in Brooklyn Federal Court.
If Derosalia is found guilty of these allegations he should lose his job.
New York City has a Civilian Complaint Review Board (CCRB) to deal with allegations of police misconduct. In 2009, the Board received 7,664 complaints. According to Ethics in Policing (EiP), the New York Civil Liberties Union (NYCLU) feels the police department and Mayor's office response to complaints is inadequate. They "have just decided they don't care about this."
But "NYPD Spokesman Paul Browne says the number of complaints simply shows the public's confidence that the system works," per EiP. Hmmm?
I'll be keeping an eye on Derosalia's case and I'll let you know what I see.
Watching out for you, Downtown B., till next time.
