Disabilities or Golden Opportunities

Jenny Heart
Many people live with disabilities, or have something that annoys them about themselves. I wanted to write about this topic, because I read an article about a woman that overcame her fear about her disability. Instead of feeling sorry for herself, she took herself, along with her disability and soared to new heights.

Disabilities are challenging to say the least; however many things good can come out of them. Here are a few:

* Find inner strength

* Help others know they can do it too

* Have compassion for others

Finding inner strength is as close as the heart is to someone. Inner strength comes from accepting yourself deep down within. This is something I feel disabled individuals feel easier that someone that doesn't have one.

If you are disabled in any way, try observing someone that has one. Watch how they can easily accept imperfection. Watch how they smile more than others. They don't take life too seriously. People can learn a lot by observing these great compassionate individuals. They have been put in our families, or in the world to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. Listen to their beautiful voices, and try singing along with them too. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you learn how to accept others, as well as yourself.

Disabled individuals try harder most of the time to accomplish things. They are not generally quitters. They have courage beyond our understanding.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Take the opportunity to learn something from disabled people. They have been put in your life for a reason. They can teach us many lessons. Give respect to these brilliant individuals. They may be disabled in one way, and a genius in another. They sometimes excel in other areas that you aren't as intelligent about. Learning from each other is how to make the world go around.

Check out this link about a woman that learned to fly a plane with her feet. She's a winner, not a quitter. The next time you feel hopeless about accomplishing something, think about this courageous woman.

    We need reminding of how much we are blessed but still feel life has been less than fair! Stephen Hawking has been one of my greatest inspiration. I should count my blessings the rest of my life! Good reporting Jenny - siva
