Disability Scams: Why Do People Do It?

About Scammers Who Fake Being Injured for the Money

While many of us have called in sick just to get a couple of days off work, there are people who actually go the extra mile and fake a disability due to some "fall" somewhere where they can rake in the money, which is so sad because as a society we help those who physically can not help themselves, in other words, its taxpayers money, not only are they scamming people who really needs this, but I guess you can say they are robbing us as well. And its amazing to see who exactly are doing the scamming, the actual number of people who fake injuries is still unknown in the United States.

A couple of years ago, a former prison guard claimed that a fall at her work place left her with severe injuries to her, back ,neck, arm and legs, she won monthly benefits of just about $3,000. Now at first they will be on guard and try to fake it as much as they can in public, I guess they know about the possibility of being under investigation, but eventually they will slip up. But of course with so many cases fraud going on, they get suspicious and if you are suspected fraud, this is where the surveillance comes in, apparently our friend was not aware of being taped while doing back flips on her jet skii. Now we can all laugh and say how stupid, but if you really look at it at another view, you can't help but get furious! But of course when you do get caught, you have to pay back every single penny and you are serving time, not alot of time, but you will be punished. But alot of people are getting away with this and it amazes me how easy this can be done, and with little shame. Maybe if our higher power are willing to try a little harder maybe these scammers can be stopped. But its hard to tell who really needs it and who will just take advantage, apparently all they can see is free money. And you would be suprise to find out who is doing these scams, anyone from 20 to 70 years of age.

Take the case of a former policeman back in early 90's who is currently in jail for murder, guess why he is recieving over $3,000 monthly? Yes, because he is disabled, from stress and depression! Does this mean I can claim disability? I'm pretty stressed and depressed from knowing that being a murderer is not enough to cut him from disability. And there are people, especially the elderly which can not recieve such benefits, and that does not make any sense. What a shame.

And remember if you suspect that someone is commiting disabilaty fraud or anything illegal, please report it to your local Social Security department,or contact your local police and it will also help if you maybe had some type of proof, like pictures, but nothing that can get you in trouble, but every little bit helps. I guess there will always be someone who thinks that they can always screw the system and get away with it, but their time will come sooner or later.

10 percent of long-term disability claims are fraudulent. That could means $10 billion in tax money wasted every year!
