Disappointing Results from Sergeant's Flea Control Products

If Your Dog Has Fleas, Shop for Another Brand

J.M.
I am usually not the type to go around telling sob stories of products I've purchased that didn't make the grade. Many times if I am unsatisfied with something I've tried, my fiance and I will have discussed our feelings on it and move on with our lives, more simply put, we just won't buy that product again. This time however, I share my findings with you for one reason only: So you don't have to go through the same emotional and financial disappointment that my fiance and I, and our two dogs are currently going through.

My fiance and I recently relocated to the beautiful Willamette Valley of Oregon and while we are loving our new lifestyle, and the milder climate it provides, with that comes a new problem we didn't previously have in the colder climate we used to live in. That problem would be nothing less than the terrible little creatures we have all grown to know; Fleas.

Shortly after the summer started, we noticed an increase of itching and scratching and nibbling about their bodies coming from our two dogs. At first we thought it was a result of the change in climate, but that in itself didn't make any sense because it is more humid here in Oregon than where we used to live. So, we looked a little closer and instead of finding dry skin as we had suspected, we noticed fleas. The fleas hadn't taken over our dogs lives, or our home at that point in time, because we hadn't even noticed them at all aside from the itching symptoms our two dogs were displaying. So, naturally the next day we went to the pet store, bought 3 different flea control products that were supposed to work in conjunction of each other, gave our dogs flea baths with the new shampoo, cleaned their bedding, vacuumed like crazy all over the house, and hoped for the best.

The products we purchased were all Sergeant's brand flea control products. The first was Sergeant's Skip-Flea and Tick Shampoo with Oatmeal. We selected this specific variety because although we of course want flea control for our dogs, we also care about the condition of their skin, so we thought the oatmeal variety would be a thoughtful product to use. Second we purchased Sergeant's Gold Household Flea & Tick Spray in an aerosol can that should be sprayed around their bedding area, and other areas of the house that they typically spend time such as living room floors, etc. The third product was Sergeant's Gold Flea & Tick Spray for Dogs and Puppies. This product was to be sprayed directly onto the dogs themselves, worked into their coats by hand, and was supposed to help kill any existing fleas as well as prevent new ones from making a home on our lovely little four legged friends.

To our dismay, after a few days and combination of all three products, our dogs however acting as though they were feeling better, still had fleas. Perhaps we did something wrong we thought, so we did the entire cycle again. After all, even though the bottle of spray that went directly on the dogs said it would provide "control for up to 14 weeks" the shampoo on the other hand only provided 10 days of protection, and suggested we bathe our dogs weekly. Okay fine,we'll bathe them weekly, if that's what it takes to get rid of these ornery little bugs we'll do it. No problem-o! Again, we completed the entire cycle, bath, bedding, vacuum, spray the dogs, spray the carpet, yada yada yada. A few days later, same thing. They still have fleas! We completed this cycle AGAIN a third time, and same results. Apparently third time is not always a charm.

So, while we've moved onto another method of flea killing products and are still awaiting some long term results, we find it very upsetting and nerve-wracking, that not only one, not two, but three products made by the same company and used by direction to-the-tee three times over, our dogs still have fleas. Ladies and Gentlemen of four legged friends... Should you find a need to purchase some flea protection for your animals, please look past Sergeant's brand. I hate to make a bad name for anyone, but simply getting a refund for the products we have boughten is not enough to make up for the time and energy we have spent trying to get good results. Nor is it even satisfactory for the little to none relief it's provided for our dogs.

My cat died this morning after having the flea tubes put on the back of his neck. He shook and seized for 4 hours before dying. Started at 2am and ended at 6:30am. I am real hurt and angry at this company. True you have warnings on the back of boxes, but do you think I would really put something on my cat that would kill him???? After burying our pet this morning, I came home and tossed the rest of the products I had left, flea treatments and shampoo in the garbage. I will never ever use this on my dog. You guys should be ashamed and take that product off the shelves until you find something that wont hurt the animal being treated. I would much rather deal with the fleas then lose my cat to such a horrific death.

We recently purchased sergeants flea medication at our local Food City Store. I purchased this medication on Saturday and within an hour
my dogs were digging at their skin and chewed bits of hair out of themselves. We tried bathing them but this did not help. They were sick and would not eat or drink. We took them to the vet and the vet said that medication should be taken off the market, and I was lucky that I got my dogs to them when I did that they could die. They were dehydrated from not drinking and running a temperature. They are still sick, that's been 5 days now. Wish I had just gotten medication from the vet to start with and this would have saved me money in the long run and my pets would not have had to suffer.

Wow! I wish i would have read all of this before I tried Sergants Gold on my 2 little poodle mixes. They were both taken to the vet next day, each of them had a blister on the back, lots of shaking and crying. My vet said what saved them from worse burns was that my husband shampooed them in the middle of the night 2x w/Dawn dishsoap! Don't understand why these products are still being sold to the public!!

Please everyone read this PDF file. Sergeants knows they are causing Suffering and Deaths to Pets!!! All along they are taking in Financial Profits off of our horrific experiences.

    http://epa.gov/pesticides/health/spot-on-meeting-may2009.pdf

Coupled with the horrific experience of watching your Pet suffer, Sergeant's Pet Care Products, Inc is creating great financial hardships (emergency vet visits and medications) for their customers
during a time when Good People who love their Pets cannot afford one more bad thing to happen to them.

Sergeant's Products were taken off the shelves at the Walmart in my region, that makes me extremely happy to know one more innocent Pet or hard working loving family will not have to suffer while your company makes a financial profit.
