Disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill

Oil Spill Promises Disaster to Residence of Gulf Coast

addie protivnak
A giant oil spill moves toward to coast of Louisiana, Mississippi .Alabama, and Florida the phones are ringing in the local hotels and rooms are going fast as companies, environmentalist, sightseers, and politicians converge along the Gulf Coast and to see where the oil will hit.

There's a feeling of helplessness among the residences as they wait to see how the oil leak will affect their lives. For generations the people of the gulf coast, from Mexico around to the tip of Florida, have depended upon the Gulf of Mexico for their livelihood. These people have faced and survived the strongest storms of the centuries. When a hurricane blows you know it will only last for a few hours but this disaster is like a storm that blows for twenty or more years. It can wipe out the gulf coast as we know it today. They will survive because its human nature to do so but will the beautiful sunsets of the gulf shine on a land void of live.

In an economy that's already devastated by imports and high gas prices this promises to be the one that breaks the spirit.

You captured the spirit amongst the residents in Louisiana perfectly. We are all still fighting the oil spill and many homes in my own neighborhood are empty now while people are busy on the coastline cleaning up.

I'm praying for everyone along the Gulf. What a horrible nightmare. I know in Alabama things have just gotten back to normal after the hurricanes. Makes me feel sick.
