Disasters 101

A natural disaster can strike at any given time. Preparation isn't just being aware of the dangers associated with a disaster but being prepared with supplies. Families are often left unprepared mentally and low on supplies. A natural disaster is caused by nature and its elements ripping out in anger. Disasters often leave us feeling fear and unprepared for such events. We don't have to be unprepared anymore.

There are several disasters that occur in our lifetimes. The location of your home will depend on which disaster may happen. The first step in preparing yourself and your family for any disaster is to have the proper knowledge

TORANDO PREPARATION. A tornado is a disaster that destroys everything in its path. The preparation for such a disaster, is having a safety plan in place. Every member of your household including, your children should know the safest space in the house.

HURRICANE PREPARATION. Hurricanes are more likely to occur on the coasts. However, hurricanes can cause other locations to be flooded and damaged as well. Water isn't the only element of nature to be destructive during a hurricane, the winds are brutal and can be deadly to those who enter in their territory.

BLIZZARD PREPARATION. Blizzards are fun and beautiful to enjoy. However that isn't always the case. A blizzard can leave you trapped in the house for days or even weeks. The severity of the blizzard will determine just how much damage is done.

EARTHQUAKE PREPARATION. Earthquakes occur in those areas where people live on or near a fault in the earth's surface below. A few states that need to be prepared for such a disaster are Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and California.

FLOOD PREPARATION. A flood can happen anywhere it rains. Floods can be very dramatic on a person and a community. An over source of water over can destroy homes, lands and bring death upon our society.

VOLCANO PREPARATION. If you don't live on an island, you won't have to worry about a volcano disaster. However, a vacation on an island where a volcano or two is located, it is best to prepare yourself the best way you can.

Here is a list of supplies to keep on hand for any type of emergency.

SUPPLIES NEEDED There are several supplies you will need in any type of disaster. It is best to have at least two or more of the item at hand. The more frequently you use the item, the more you should have in stock. Several items may include the following; toilet paper, blankets, first aid kit, and various other important items.

WATER. A good supply of water is needed in any type of disaster. Water should be kept in jugs, or large/small coolers. You can't have too much water. The supply of water is in need for bathing, drinking and ever cooking.

FOOD. Non perishable foods such as can goods is a great source of food to have on hand. In disaster situations, electricity will not always be available. No electricity means no refrigeration.

LIGHT SOURCE. Whether its candles, matches, batteries and flashlights, you need to be prepared for the unknown. You can't always count on the sun being your light. Darkness comes quicker than some realize.

Nature is a beautiful scenic adventure to explore. When Mother nature strikes, she strikes hard. Mother nature has a mind of her own. You can never fully prepare for anything she has to dish out. However, it is always in your best interest to be prepared as much as possible. Whether it is mentally or physically. It is best to be prepared for whatever Mother nature has to offer us.
