You can browse the disboards.com forum without becoming a member. But the fun is in becoming a member. All you need is an e-mail address and an ability to learn a new language. The disboards.com members have formed a new language full of abbreviations. I tend to ignore the abbreviations but just in case you are wandering, DH does not stand for deceased husband, it means darling husband. Oh and if you don't ever post and just read the threads, then you are commonly referred to as a lurker. I tend to just lurker because the waters can be brutal. As in all discussion forums, everyone has an opinion. And if your opinion is different from the general population, then be prepared to be attacked, but in a nice way. The forum does have rules about posting attacks and they do have moderators that try to control blatant rude posters. But that doesn't always work. Long time members are more subtle in their attacks. That is why disboards.com is great in small doses.
Each poster has a counter under their avatar so you can see how many posts they have posted and how long they have been a member. I find it mind boggling that some posters have over 20,000 posts under their belt. SAHM's most have a lot of free time. Just in case you didn't know SAHM stands for Stay-at-Home-Mom's. I am probably going to get flamed for that remark because that is how the disboards work. Everyone has a right to their opinion, as long as it is the same as everyone else's opinion.
If you can get past the repetitive comments, disboards is really a great informative website. And if you don't have a thick skin, skip the community board and go straight to the trip report board. All the trip report posters are still high on Disney Magic from their recent vacation so they tend to be exceedingly nice. I have learned a lot from the website. I have learned that January is a great time to go because of low crowds and nice weather. I know to avoid Magic Kingdom on Saturday, that Animal Kingdom will be hot no matter what, and that Disney Hollywood Studios is a waste of time. I don't necessarily agree with the last opinion. I like reading people's opinions but I also prefer to form my own. I will visit the Studios twice on my trip next week. And I am also going to Magic Kingdom on Saturday and avoiding any guest wearing lime green (it is disboards thing).
