In today's society, hip-hop music can be a tough subject. If you are not already aware of it, some people have different views toward the validity of hip-hop music and the culture in general than others, simply due to the content of the lyrics. While it is a certain niche of music, you want to be sure that you are offending as few people as possible-preferably none-with the music that you are spinning. This means that if you are in doubt, leave it out.
Knowing who is in your audience is an excellent way of making sure that you play the appropriate type of hip-hop music at your next event. Don't neglect to play the things that people want to hear, but don't bombard people's ears with curse words and violent phrases either. Know who is in your audience so you know what to play; take their requests to heart and see the type of hip-hop music that they would like to listen to, so that you can have some idea of what is best to play.
See just how many small kids are going to be at the event you are disc jockeying for. If you are doing a wedding, chances are that the beginning of the reception immediately following the wedding may have some children there but as time goes on and people start drinking, chances are that kids will be sent home and at that point the party gets a bit more mature. As the hour gets later, you have the ability to play music that is a bit more adult in nature, and there is less of a need for censorship of music that hip-hop music can sometimes call for.
Find out about the audience who is going to be there the whole night. Sometimes, the requests that people put in can be a great indicator of what type of music they would like to hear. Depending on who your audience is, sure they would like hip-hop music but what type of hip-hop music would they prefer? Something newer or something older? Rap music, R&B music, hip-hop ballads-there is so much to choose from, and it is important to get some idea of what your listeners want to hear played.
Playing hip-hop music is not always going to be the easiest thing to do as a DJ. There are so many different genres of hip-hop music that it is best to stay away from anything that many be controversial. Play the type of music that your listeners request and use their requests to form the rest of your play list. If you can please your guests, chances are that you are securing a few more events for yourself in the future based off of word-of-mouth alone. You can also get tips on other djing pointers here.
