A lot of people think that teachers have an easy job. That is not true. My stepmother, aunt and grandmother were all teachers. I saw first hand the long hours they put in to prepare lessons and grade papers. A teacher's job does not stop once the bell rings. Even summer vacation is not truly a vacation for teachers.
While there are many disadvantages of being a teacher, there are also many perks and advantages. The pay a teacher receives is far less than they deserve but, the satisfaction of seeing the major differences that they make in a child's life makes up for the lack of money. Problem students and parents cause stress but, rest and relaxation can help alleviate that stress.
Many businesses recognize the fact that teachers need an opportunity to relieve stress without great expense. These companies show their appreciation to our wonderful educators by offering discounted and sometimes free products and services. These five sites offer wonderful discounts on relaxing opportunities for our nation's educators.
Teacher's Discount is a free site that allows educators to sign up by simply registering and verifying school information and credentials. This is sort of like a clearing house for discounts. They have partnered with many well know companies to offer discounts valid online and in person to those in the education field. Some of the companies are Barnes & Noble, Highlights, and Avis, among many others.
Once you register, you simply click on Discounts and then decide which company you are interested in doing business with. You are then directed to a link for that company where you can see all of the discounts they offer to members of Teacher's Discount.
Educator's Travel is a site that is open to current, former, and retired educators. The membership fee is $36 a year with an additional $10 initiation fee. This site offers discounted hotel rooms and accommodations. The rooms are $40 a night with a $5 booking fee. You can see the locations available before you start a membership. This site also offers a limited amount of private homes for use for $50 a night. These homes are part of a home sitting service that the site offers members who will be gone on vacations.

Audubon Zoo and Aquarium of the Americas in New Orleans, Louisiana offers teachers a 10% discount on their zoo and aquarium combo package. Cruise Direct Online offers discounts on cruises for educators who work at least 20 hours a week and have been employed at least a year under the A+ Savings Program for Teachers and Educators. The discount varies dependent on the cruise selected and the cruise dates.
This is just a short list of some of the places that offer discounts to teachers. A lot of smaller companies will offer discounts to teachers. If you are a teacher, always carry proof of employment and ask about educator discounts.
