What makes this park unique is that it has a natural atmosphere. There are no roads or five star hotels to stay at and you can travel by foot or by boat.

Or, how about a combination of both?

Tours

You can cruise and walk in various styles on two different boat tours, the Vista Cruise and the Vigour Water Taxi. The Vista Cruise is more about relaxation and comfort while the Vigour Water Taxi is more for the thrill seekers. Some of the tours take you through the seal colony at the Tonga Island Marine Reserve, includes a walk from Torrent Bay to Anchorage Bay by Cleopatra's pool and walks along golden sand beaches, waterfalls and swimming.

Unique Accomodations

Two unique accommodations are the Torrent Bay Lodge and the Meadowbank Homestead. They are the only beachfront lodges found at the park. There are Coach connections from the park to Nelson or Motueka. The overnight trip includes private twin/double bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, a boat cruise along the coast, high quality restaurants and more.

Kayaking

Kayaking is one of the most popular activities at the park. Abel Tasman National Park offers a few different sea kayak day trips through Abel Tasman Wilson's Experience, winner at the 2006 New Zealand tourism awards. First, they offer "Beaches and Bays Sea Kayaking," which includes four hours of journeying through the heart of Abel Tasman National Park. On, this trip, you can see seals and birds, travel through protected beaches and relax near golden sandy beaches. A second type of day trip is called "Kayak Seals and Walk Day Trip" and it includes kayaking, walking and boat cruising. There is also the most economical option that is called the "Budget Kayak and Walk" day trip that incorporates, kayaking, walking and boating.

Day Trips

The day trips leave from Kaiteriteri or Marahau and there are connecting coaches to Nelson and Motueka.

Family Activities

If you're planning to travel with family, then you wouldn't want to miss Kaiteriteri Beach at the edge of Abel Tasman National Park. Many familes enjoy swimming, snorkeling, sailing and water skiing at this hot spot. You may also want to check out this location by helicopter or a fixed wing aircraft. Fishing, campaing and bird watching are other activities that you might enjoy at the park.

Abel Tasman National Park

With a rich, natural atmosphere, Abel Tasman National Park founded in 1942 is located at the top of the South Island of New Zealand. Although the smallest national park in the country, the park has more than 50 kilometres of coastline and many beautiful natural sights such as hidden coves, granite cliffs and Split Apple Rock, which is a big boulder made out of granite.

Conclusion

No matter what you're interests are, there's sure to be something fun to do at Abel Tasman National Park, New Zealand.
