Point your browser to Creditfreelife.com and look to the bottom right hand corner of the website. Do you notice any particular company logo? Sure you do, it is the blue and yellow colors of a familiar rent to own chain.
Next, check out the identity of the sincere and honest looking male host of the commercial. You will find that he is Mark Speese, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Rent a Center rent to own retail store chain.
Ask yourself this: Rent a Center retail stores already operate a retail storefront (www.rentacenter.com), what is the purpose for creating an alternate website like Creditfreelife.com? Clearly, such a website can mask the identity of the company behind the product for people who aren't really paying attention. Hmmmm...could it be that once you have gotten reeled in by the hype of the Creditfreelife.com commercials and website you may not really care that you may very well just be being shafted by a rent to own company? Think really hard about this one...
Now, realize that Mark Speese may very well be an honest and sincere man, but ask yourself another question: Is it likely that he is really interested in helping individuals out in times of economic crisis, or is it more likely that he is really interested in adding to the financial growth of his business by cleverly promoting Rent a Center stores?
Finally, consider all that you have discovered and do not make any snap judgments. Give each side of the coin a fair evaluation. It may be that Mark Speese is an honest man who is trying to accomplish both objectives from the previous paragraph; this actually makes sense because the smart business person realizes that the best way to make money is to help people to help themselves.
The bottom line here is this: Make sure that you are using your critical thinking skills wisely. Don't get caught up in what very well could be a ploy to appeal to your emotions so that you will overlook the fact that you will be spending much more money then you should.

Post a CommentI agree Sophie, some of these companies can be total vampires.
I think it's appalling how people try to cash in on other's fears during these times by trying to reel them in like this. Good reporting, Rachelle.
