Bear at the start of each episode will move into an area that serves as a popular, yet remote tourist attraction, like the Mohave Dessert, or the volcanic plains of the Hawaiian Islands.
Then Bear has to try and make his way out of the situation he is stranded in by using basic survival techniques hat anyone could accomplish. Bear will teach his viewers how to find food and water in the most uninhabitable places, and show you how to utilize the landscape to find civilization and a way home.
The great thing about Bear's show as compared to others is that Bear goes into the wild as if he were a tourist, not a survival expert. Then he shows you how to use your instincts and the land for your survival and does not rely on anything really fancy. The most Bear ever has with him is a knife, flint, wrist watch and the clothes on his back, and that's if he's really going prepared!
Bear is not a man trying to live in the wild for a prolonged period of time, he's trying to survive it and escape as a tourist, so if you ever happened to find yourself in a situation like him, or similar you'll be prepared.
Although the show is supposed to be a tool for teaching people to survive, its also extremely entertaining to watch. The landscapes are deceptively beautiful and of course the action is non-stop with Bear as he outruns bears, makes primitive weapons for hunting, and constantly has to overcome huge obstacles that seem impassable but yet he does it anyways like scaling a fifty foot rock wall with no equipment!
Some of the survival skills Bear teaches are really great to know even if you're not a hardcore wildlife enthusiast, like where to find water in the dessert, you look for plant life, dried up riverbeds, and rocks with mineral deposits.
Or how to build a makeshift raft out of drift wood, and even how to make a flotation device out of your pants! Bear is a really great teacher and gives out the information on a very understanding level, he's not flashy by any means, but while your trying to escape the wilderness of Canada, or the brutal cold of Alaska.
Bear Grylls is a real guy who does an amazing job of relaying information to the public about basic survival techniques. His show is immensely entertaining, airing on the Discovery channel, and is a must see for anyone into hiking, skiing, or any outdoor activity involving the wilderness, or if your just in the mood to watch a really good program on TV.

Post a Commenthe is the greatest survival guide ever.Keep up the good work =)
I love this show I enjoy watching survival Man also. I enjoy the wilderness and all of it's secrets. I also love the fact that my family watches these shows and has became interested also, and has learned alot.
I wish they would just go to these places and just survive for seven days-not trying to find their way out so they would have to use more skills on finding food and fire making. Somewhere people get lost while camping.
Thank you and keep up the great work. This is T.V. worth watching.
this guy is really hardcore...I can't believe some of the stuff he does. good article!
