In 2006 Discovery Channel aired the series Planet Earth. This is a documentary about Planet Earth. Planet Earth received four prime time Emmy's. It is narrated by Sigourney Weaver is the narrator that takes us along on as we take a trip into all the different environments on earth and the animals on earth.

Planet Earth is not your typical documentary. I am not a big fan of documentaries but I loved Discovery Channels Planet Earth. Planet Earth gets you involved in the action, making you wonder what is going to happen next. I love how the present the information, then let you watch the amazing creatures in their natural habitat. If you have High Definition, you can watch the show in HD which makes the backgrounds even more incredible.

One thing that I usually don't like about nature and animal shows is watching the animals kill each other. Yes I know this is part of real life, and part of nature but I don't like watching it happen. Planet Earth does show real life and in the real life it shows animals dying, and killing but the way that they show it makes it more understandable. Don't get me wrong it is still sad, and I cried many times during this show but I felt better understanding why this happened.

This is a great show for families because it teaches kids about the world around us. Even as an adult I learned so much about the world that I never knew. I loved getting to see parts of the world I would never otherwise have a chance to see. I loved the episode "Ice worlds" because it gave be a chance to see incredible places that most people don't get to see.

I think Discovery Channel, and specifically Planet Earth is a great show to show people how important the environment is. This shows that how every part of this earth is affected by us. I believe what Steve Irwin said is true that if you get people excited about animals then it makes them want to save them. I think by seeing the beauty of the earth around us, it will make everyone realize how important our planet is and how important it is to take care of it.

There were many great episodes on Planet Earth from "freshwater" where it shows many different bodies of water including the amazing "Angel Falls" to the "Caves" episode where you realize that there are huge caves that are homes to all sorts of different animals. My only complaint about the episodes was when they ended. I found myself so engrossed in the show that the hour flew by, I never wanted the show to end so soon.

I would highly recommend that if you have never seen the Discovery Channels Planet Earth you should watch it. It is available on DVD and also available on Blu ray which would make the show look even more spectacular. Discovery Channel did everything right when they made this wonderful show.
