There are essential elements that unify the various covenants. These are:
A. God is the author of each covenant
B. Christ is the mediator of each covenant.
C. Man in Christ, is the recipient of each covenant.
D. Atonement by blood is found in each covenant.
E. The same promise of eternal life is found in each.
2. Is the Covenant of Grace unconditional or conditional? Explain.
It's a conditional covenant. There is the necessity of meeting the requirements of the covenant so that God can both be the just and the justifier of sinners. Jesus Christ fulfilled the requirements of the Covenant of Works, and He did so by His active and passive obedience. There is a second condition of the covenant. The gift of faith is a gift from God, but man is responsible for the believing. So, the requirement for man, is faith and loving obedience.
3. Why is the Dispensational Scheme unnecessary as a means of progression in Scripture?
Because, at many points, the Dispensational Scheme is contradictory to the Bible. It's not only unnecessary; it apparently is inherently opposed to the covenantal development of the Bible.
4. Is God the Author of Sin? Can we explain the origin of Sin? Why or why not?
No, the Scripture teaches that God is not the author of sin. The origin of sin is a question of God's will. God allowed sin to enter into the world for the manifestation of his own glory. We can't explain the origin of Sin, because we can't understand the council of God.
5. Summarize the key events that led to Mankind's Fall into Sin in the Garden.
Satan appeared to Adam in different forms. He came as a serpent, a cunning beast. He questioned the goodness of God, rather than boldly affirming it. He appealed to the autonomy of man and pride. Satan questioned what the Word of God said, its clarity, and its justice. Eve, failing to depend on her God given head, that is Adam, muttled the Lord's statements; she failed to distinguish between the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; she added to the Word of God in strictness, "not even touching it," she said; she softened the threat from "you shall surely die," to "you shall perhaps die." Satan boldly denied God's death threat and questioned God's goodness, sovereignty, and justice. Eve was seduced by the fruit and by pride. Adam, on the other hand, committed sin with the full knowledge of what he was doing. Adam was not deceived, he knew all his relationships to his seed and to his God, and he knew what had happened to Eve; she served as an example to him, being in the transgression.
