Throughout life prayer plays an essential roll for people of all backgrounds and faiths. In particular, as one grows older he or she often hopes to do so gracefully with a positive spiritual essence.

For people who live near Kalamazoo, Michigan, people can attend a series of discussions about the book, "The Gift of Years" by Joan Chittister. The leader of the discussion is Sister Gertrude Maurer, of the Congregation of St. Joseph. She will lead the book discussion about how prayer can help one spiritually grow old gracefully.

Meetings will be held at the Transformations Spirituality Center at 3427 Gull Road, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

The scheduled dates are February 23, March 9, and March 23, 2010, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The discussion is part of a "Spiritual Literacy" program series led by Sister Maurer, who holds a doctorate in American literature from Notre Dame University.

The Transformations Spirituality Center will also present "Pray All-Ways: Exploring the Ways of Prayer," from 9 a.m. to noon on February 27, 2010. This is a reflective morning, meant to renew and refresh participants' prayer lives.

The cost for these events is not free however. The registration fee for the book discussion is $30 and for the prayer session is $35. To register for either one, call (269) 381-6290 ext. 310 or visit www.transformationscenter.org.
