Discussions in the Last Days
lacking tone or timber or even real meaning
as we feign interest in unsolicited opinions
and wither and die while laughing and nodding
and still the world crashes and burns around us
screaming yet silent for none dare to hear it
while the band plays on and we all just keep dancing
until the beat changes and all seems arrhythmic
like the beating of my heart thudding loudly in ears
unable to hear it over all the humming
hyperactive realization of the theory of chaos
in the form of the blithering bothersome buzzing
seen now in the light of destruction
as nonsensical noises that pass for discussion.
