Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice: Video Game Review (PS3)

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice is a tactical strategy game released on the Playstation 3 and developed by Nippon Ichi Software. I love tactical games, and have since Final Fantasy Tactics. I'll be honest, it's hard for me to hate a Tactical RPG unless they really screw things up. Luckily Disgaea does not, let's go over why.

Story : One thing the gaming community is short on in America is silliness. Most games are very dark and gritty, so they can appeal to the young adults that usually play games. Instead, Disgaea has a serious but also a very loose and silly feel to make the game enjoyable.

Graphics : The graphics in this game are really great, but you may not think so when comparing this to other games of today. Instead of detail and realism, this game simply aims to provide a unique experience graphically and does that very well. My only gripe is that the graphics are extremely bright and you may need to turn down your screen's brightness to get full enjoyment out of the game.

Sound : Impeccable voice acting, great sound design, optional original voice acting, and of course, great music. To put it simply, this game has phenomenal sound. I can't say enough about the voice acting. Usually I hate American voice actors but the ones in this game actually did a very passable job. The sound design is quite cool and most moves feel very satisfying on sound alone. The music in Disgaea games I feel is very underrated, and there's no exception here. Overall a very good offering musically.

Game play : The meat of any tactical role playing game is the game play. Luckily, Disgaea delivers in spades. It's easy to learn and very fun to play. The amount of customization in this game is simply mind boggling, but in a good way. If you want to do something in particular, you most likely can. Another good element is the complexity isn't necessarily a necessity. A lot of extra things can be skipped in this game, giving another dimension of fun. It also makes replaying the game a lot easier, as you can skip most of the things you found tedious before. Any feature that's good in a role playing game is also here. The controls feel great and the difficulty of this game is perfect. You can alter it in the game via ''bills'', which means you can tailor the difficulty as you play. Find a specific battle to difficult? Make it easier! Steamrolling all your opponents? Make it harder! You can change it mid game and I really enjoy that aspect of it.

Re playability : There are tons of optional things in this game and also a new game+ feature. In short, the game is very very re playable and I highly recommend it.

Overall : 9/10 if you love Tactical RPGs and 7/10 if you don't. A great game with very few shortcomings.
